Falcons Chiefs Betting Tips – Atlanta Leaves Nothing to Chance in Season Opener
Atlanta Falcons @ Kansas City Chiefs – Sunday September 9, 2012 1:00PM EST
The Atlanta Falcons actually did not have that bad of a season in 2011. The team made the playoffs as a wild card and then lost in the wild card round to the eventual Super Bowl champion Giants. But, based on the team's progress for the past few years, the best online betting sites had higher hopes for Atlanta. It was not that long ago that the Falcons were dubbed as the team to replace the Saints as NFC South favorites. In 2012, the Atlanta Falcons look to start making good on all of that hype.
The Kansas City Chiefs feel as though it has a new lease on life. The entire team supports new head coach Romeo Crennel, and the online football betting sites are even reporting that quarterback Matt Cassel is healthy to start the season. This year, the Chiefs feel like it has more offensive weapons for Cassel to work with than ever before. While everyone is trying to remain grounded in Kansas City, there is brimming optimism for the upcoming season.
Why the Falcons Will Win
The Atlanta Falcons have had deficiencies in the defensive secondary ever since Matt Ryan took over as the starter three years ago. It was not until recently that the Falcons decided to finally address those deficiencies, primarily through the draft. This is a young defense in Atlanta, but it will have a chance to develop and grow together, much like the Detroit defense has done. While Atlanta does not quite have the same talent on defense that the Detroit Lions possess, this is still a very good defense that should be able to offer Matt Ryan and the offense the support it needs to succeed.
Why the Chiefs Will Win
The sport betting experts have to admit that it has been a long time since the Chiefs have had this much talent on offense. It is an offense similar to the one that quarterback Elvis Grbac ran in Kansas City a decade ago, but Matt Cassel offers a durability and leadership that Grbac did not have. The only area where the Chiefs will have to be careful is on the defensive line. With a little support from the linebackers, the Kansas City defensive line should be able to contain the line of scrimmage and give the Chiefs a chance to win.
The Bottom Line
The Falcons are taking the 2012 season very seriously. Atlanta does not want its team to wind up like the Dallas Cowboys under quarterback Tony Romo – a team of promise that just never delivers. With some new faces on defense, the Falcons look to get a fast start to the 2012 season at the expense of a Kansas City team that will get better as the season moves along.
