Cowboys Open 2013 NFL Season Versus NFC East Rival Giants On Sunday Night
The Dallas Cowboys failed to live up to lofty online sports betting expectations once again last season. That angered owner Jerry Jones, who chose to address the team’s struggles largely by making changes to the coaching staff. Jones forced head coach Jason Garrett to hand over the offensive play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Bill Callahan and brought in the legendary Monte Kiffin to take over as defensive coordinator. Ultimately it will be Garrett’s job on the line if this year’s Cowboys fail, and it won’t take long to find out where they stand in the NFC East with the season opener scheduled for Sunday night against the rival New York Giants.

The Giants are another NFC East team coming off of a disappointing year, only a pair of Super Bowl rings has made head coach Tom Coughlin’s job much more secure than Garrett’s is in Dallas. Still, there are high expectations in New York with the city set to host this year’s Super Bowl, and the Giants are looking to bounce back following a disappointing season.
NFL Betting Preview: New York Giants
Nobody on the Giants has more questions to answer this year than Eli Manning, who threw for 3,948 yards and 26 touchdowns but also turned the ball over 20 times including 15 interceptions. There were concerns about Manning’s arm strength and whether or not he was worn out, but he will have every chance to answer his critics with a strong cast of receivers that includes Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, and Reuben Randle. Ultimately, the Giants’ defense will need to be much better in order to keep New York in more games, and much of that depends on a defensive line that is tasked with bringing enough pressure to mask holes in the secondary.
NFL Betting Preview: Dallas Cowboys
It will be Tony Romo and a strong cast of Cowboys’ receivers looking to answer the bell on the other side of the ball and exploit those weaknesses in the Giants’ secondary. Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Jason Witten, and a healthy Terrance Williams gives Dallas one of the most talented receiving cores in the NFL, and it will be on Romo to make it work. The Cowboys should run the ball more with Callahan calling the plays and DeMarco Murray healthy, and the defense has looked good in the preseason running its new 4-3 look under Kiffin.
NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick
The stage is set for a Sunday night showdown between these sports betting rivals, and there is a lot working in Dallas’ favor beyond the home advantage. The Cowboys’ offense has the potential to be one of the best in the NFL if Romo and Callahan can pull things together, and if Kiffin’s defense can force Manning in to making some mistakes then Dallas should be able to open the year on a positive note with a strong cover win.
