Winless Giants Face New Look Vikings On Monday Night Football
The Minnesota Vikings have finally announced the newest member of their team, Josh Freeman, will be starting against the New York Giants. Freeman figures to give the Vikings many new options on offense, which makes this one of the most intriguing games of the week. The Giants are still looking for their first victory of the year however, which is why I find it surprising sports books are actually favoring the Giants by a field goal.
Minnesota Vikings @ New York Giants
MetLife Stadium – East Rutherford, NY
Odds: Giants -3
What To Watch For From The Minnesota Vikings
Traditionally the Vikings have been rather conservative in their playing calling, but now with the strong armed Freeman under center the offense may open up and fans could see some deep passes as the game progresses. Adrian Peterson carried the ball just 10 times in the Vikings Week 6 loss, and hopefully this weekend they can do a better job implementing him so they can allow the best running back in the league to help their struggling offense. The key for a Vikings victory however will come in their ability to rush Eli Manning as the Giants’ offensive line has struggled all season long, and when pressure Manning has proven to be ineffective in the pass game, giving the Vikings the upper hand.
What To Watch For From The New York Giants
Many of the offensive problems for the Giants stem from the poor offensive line play they have received, and going up against two solid pass rushing defensive ends this weekend the Giants may be in for another ugly game. Manning has thrown 15 interceptions through six games and even though he will be going up against one of the worst secondary’s in the league he must still focus on limiting his turnovers as it will be near impossible for the Giants to win if they lose the turnover battle. The Giants’ defense has been one of the worst units in the league this year, and considering they give up nearly 125 yards on the ground per game Peterson could be in for his first huge game of the 2013 season.
The Giants really do look like one of the worst teams in the NFL based off just their play, but the Vikings will be breaking in a new quarterback, and their defense hasn’t been playing very consistent this season either. There are many questions that will be answered during this game, making it hard to predict the outcome, but the bottom line is that the Giants have a terrible defense, and their offense could be rendered useless because of the Vikings’ pass rush, which is why I am picking the Vikings to win this game.
