Jets, Ravens Meet In Battle Of Two Desperate Teams
After wrenching losses this past weekend, there’s really no turning back for the Jets and Ravens. They can’t lament what happened. The loser of this Sunday’s game will be severely hurt.
New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens – Sunday, November 24
Sports betting line: Ravens -4
Why New York Will Win
This is a situation in which the Jets are going to take the field in this game knowing that they can play great defense against a very limited Baltimore offense. The Ravens took a big step back before the regular season even began, losing star receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers. That one change in the roster took away the receiver who made quarterback Joe Flacco look so good last season, en route to the Super Bowl championship. Then the hits kept coming, as tight end Dennis Pitta got knocked out for the season with an injury, depriving Flacco of his short-yardage security blanket. In early September, Baltimore was left without two pillars of its Super Bowl-winning offense. During the season, running back Ray Rice has not been running at full speed. He’s been slowed down by the wear and tear of professional football. It is clear that on all sorts of levels, Baltimore’s offense has not had the resources or depth needed to survive the rigors of this season. Roster attrition has affected the Ravens more negatively than many other teams in the NFL. The Jets’ defense should relish the chance to play against Baltimore’s offense on Sunday.
Why Baltimore Will Win
When online betting experts tackle this clash, they will point out that Baltimore’s defense has carried most of the workload for the Ravens this season, even though Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are no longer on the team. Baltimore’s defense has played every game this season knowing that the offense wasn’t going to be able to be as good as it was in the playoffs last January. The defense knew it would be handed most of the responsibility for this team in 2013. The ability of Baltimore’s defense to hold up under pressure represents a significant achievement, one that should definitely be respected. The Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh should be able to find ways to attack Smith, confuse him, and create multiple turnovers that, if gained, will give the Baltimore offense short fields and remove a great deal of pressure from Flacco’s shoulders. If the Ravens do flummox Smith and disrupt the Jets’ flow on offense, they can win what promises to be a very ugly game on Sunday afternoon. Playing at home should certainly help Baltimore as well.
Who Will Win
The Ravens don’t deserve a bettor’s trust in this game, but the Jets deserve even less trust on the road. New York can’t be seen as the likely winner at this point. The Jets have to prove the doubters wrong, and they probably won’t.
