NFL Week 14 Betting Marquee Matchups:

Colts @ Titans (Thursday)

The Colts will be coming off two games against elite opponents (San Diego in week 12 and then Dallas in week 13). Given their very short turnaround, a road trip to Tennessee could prove to be very daunting. We’re not sure what the Titans’ record will look like in week 14, but if coach Jeff Fisher’s club is anywhere near playoff contention (at the very least), this Thursday night fight will give the Titans a great chance to knock off their foremost rival from Indianapolis. If these two teams played 10 times, Indy would likely win eight matchups. However, the NFL schedule maker – by grinding down the Colts and then making them play on short rest – could very well give Tennessee a path to success in this prime-time tilt. It would be quite an achievement for the Colts to survive this game, provided that the Titans are playing with any appreciable degree of distinction.

Giants @ Vikings

Minnesota will be pushing toward not just a playoff spot, but in all likelihood, playoff positioning. The Vikings really could have used home-field advantage last season in the NFC Championship Game, but some late-stage losses in the regular season forced them to go to New Orleans, where coach Brad Childress’ team fell just short against the Saints. This time, the Vikes are aiming for the No. 1 seed. If they are to attain such a goal, they’ll need to fend off the New York Giants, who are very much a mystery heading into 2010. Will Eli Manning have his offense humming this season? If the answer to that question is “yes,” this December donnybrook has the makings of an epic. If not, Minnesota should cruise and enhance its status as the team to beat in the NFC.

Ravens @ Texans

Expect bonecrushing defense in this AFC affair. Neither quarterback – Baltimore’s Joe Flacco or Houston’s Matt Schaub – is an elite NFL signal caller. The man who displays better ball security will profoundly increase his team’s chances of winning. Baltimore is an AFC favorite, while Houston is trying to knock down the door and get into the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. One way or another, this game is likely to lend an important new dimension to the ever-evolving AFC playoff chase.
