Rodgers, Packers Hope Lambeau Frost Can Cool Down Kaepernick, 49ers
The Green Bay Packers clinched a playoff spot with another online sports betting comeback win led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers in his return from a broken collarbone. Now that they are in and Rodgers is back, there is little doubt they have the chance to make a run. The Packers feel their chances are as good as any other NFC team now that they have their franchise quarterback under center again, although they face a tough test right away against the visiting San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers hasn’t forgotten last year’s playoff loss to San Francisco, but talked this week about how his team has learned from that defeat, and how having the home advantage could make the difference this time.
NFC Wild Card Round
San Francisco 49ers @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday January 5, 2014 – 4:40 PM ET
Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin
NFL Sports Betting Line: San Francisco – 3
The 49ers have taken the last couple of games in this head-to-head series, as Colin Kaepernick has dominated the Green Bay defense with both his arm and legs. Containing Kaepernick is the top priority for San Francisco in this game, but that’s certainly easier to game plan than to actually do.
NFL Betting Preview: San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers were just as good on the road as they were at home overall, posting identical 6-2 records. However, they have yet to play in winter weather yet this season, and this will be their first taste of the cold. San Francisco carries a six-game win streak in to the playoffs, and they are certainly playing at a high level on both sides of the ball. San Francisco owns a defense that ranks in the top-10 against both the run and pass, and has gotten the best of Rodgers and the Packers over the past two years. Even still, it has been Kaepernick that has been the biggest threat to Green Bay, and they will rely on him and running back Frank Gore to lead their balanced attack once again this week.
NFL Betting Preview: Green Bay Packers
It took a little while for Rodgers to get going in his return to the line up last week, but he finished with a strong second half throwing for 173 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score in the final minute. The Packers will need Rodgers to perform at an elite level this week, especially with how rough their defense has had it. Green Bay has allowed an average of 30 points per game over the past nine weeks, which has them ranked 30th in the NFL over that span. That doesn’t translate well for a group that has already struggled against this 49ers’ offense in the past, and tackling certainly won’t get any easier in the cold conditions.
NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick
The Packers would appear to have the home advantage this week because of the cold temperatures, but they have struggled against San Francisco in the past, and containing the 49ers’ rushing attack in winter conditions won’t be easy. San Francisco has shown progressive improvement with every passing week down the final stretch, and considering they have had Green Bay’s number in the past, there is a good chance they will go in to Lambeau this week and steal the live betting win.
