Packers Bears Betting – Bears Avenge Playoff Loss, Take Packers Down A Peg
Sports betting players will get a rematch of the 2010 NFC championship game this weekend in Chicago as the Bears welcome Green Bay to town in a huge NFC North showdown. The Packers have been rolling through the first two weeks of the season, but they’ll run into a Chicago defense that has a chip on their shoulder thanks to a poor showing last week.

Why Bet On Green Bay Packers (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS)
The Packers used a 16-0 edge in the third quarter to hold off Carolina 30-23 on the road, and the offense continues to roll under Aaron Rodgers, who was 19-of-30 for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Whether it’s short routes, over the middle or going deep, you could argue that Rodgers is the best quarterback in the league right now, although he does have an embarrassment of riches surrounding him. The Packers also averaged 5.9 yards on 24 carries, and a dangerous running game would make Green Bay’s aerial attack even more lethal; with a duo of James Starks and Ryan Grant in the backfield, they can really wear on a team. Defensively, the Packers were opportunistic, forcing four turnovers and managed to sack Carolina quarterback Cam Newton four times.
However, Green Bay allowed Newton to throw for 432 yards and gave up a number of big plays. It was an inconsistent day on that side of the ball for the Packers, who managed to shut it down when the Panthers raced out to a 13-0 lead, and then they let Carolina back in the game in the fourth quarter. As for injuries, in the secondary the Packers missed Tramon Williams and now Nick Collins may be out after being stretchered off against Carolina with a neck injury. Even though Chicago doesn’t have a fantastic passing game, there is still cause for concern in Green Bay.
Why Bet On Chicago Bears (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS)
NFL betting players should have been tuning into Chicago’s trip to New Orleans as the matchup featured a pair of teams with legitimate aspirations in the NFC. However, it ended in a 30-13 trouncing at the hands of the Saints as the Bears were soundly beaten on both sides of the ball. Jay Cutler was 19-of-45 for 244 yards and a touchdown, but he was sacked six times and hit countless others as the Bears’ inability to protect Cutler may be the reason they fail to return to the NFC title game. Another reason is a lack of receivers, and although 10 catches for 117 yards is a great day for Matt Forte, he’s a running back and now he has led the Bears in receiving yards in both games. The defense was an emotional unit as leader Brian Urlacher played despite the passing of his mother, but they failed to pressure Drew Brees and that is a recipe for disaster.
Perhaps the Bears were due for a letdown after coming out and romping over Atlanta in Week 1 at home, as they were heading on the road to face a New Orleans defense that was embarrassed by the Packers in Week 1. On the injury front, safety Major Wright left the New Orleans game with a head injury, and first-round pick Gabe Carimi hurt his knee, which is a blow to an offensive line that already has a lot of work to do.
How It Will Play Out
The Packers are a 3.5-point NFL betting favorite on the road in Chicago, where they are 2-3 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five trips, with four games falling under the posted total. The two last met at Soldier Field in last year’s NFC championship game, when the Packers came away with a 21-14 victory in a hard-fought game that may be remembered more for Cutler’s knee injury, an injury that many thought wasn’t as severe as it seemed to be.
Look for the Bears to come away with the upset as they look to avenge last year’s postseason loss, and the defense will be out to prove that last week’s performance was an anomaly. Cutler has a lot to prove as well, and he’s going to need help from the line in order to find his receivers. Also, Green Bay’s offense has been playing at a high level, and they’re about due to have a poor game. Go with Chicago at home in your online betting picks.
