Packers Colts Betting Tips – Packers Continue Their Uphill Climb In Indianapolis

Posted by Tony Bryant on 10/2/2012 6:48:33 PM

The Green Bay Packers have not started their 2012 season in the manner that they either hoped or expected. They will try to improve themselves and their record against the Indianapolis Colts.

Green Bay Packers @ Indianapolis Colts – Sunday, October 7

Why Green Bay Will Win

When poker is played, the better dealer wins, and in this matchup between a veteran and a rookie, the superior dealer is wearing a yellow helmet with the Green Bay "G" on it.

Andrew Luck could very well be the quarterback of the future, the man who does for the Indianapolis Colts what Peyton Manning did over the past 12 years, but Green Bay signal caller Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback of the present. So much goes into the process of becoming a great NFL quarterback. In college, a quarterback can get away with more limitations because he might be going up against a limited defense with deficient talent in at least one level of the alignment (defensive line, linebackers, secondary), but in the NFL, there are 11 quality athletes throughout a defensive unit. Quarterbacks do not have shortcuts available and can't try to get by with half-measures.

Simply stated, Rodgers is the fully ripened quarterback who has mastered all of these arts. His release is the quickest in the game. He can scramble for big yardage (not merely to avoid pressure). He scans his second and third reads with noticeable sharpness. He can gun the ball down the field. He owns complete mastery of the pocket and the environment near him. Luck is just beginning to find out what it takes to be an NFL quarterback, an elite performer at the highest level of competition. Moreover, he'll be going against a Green Bay defense that has performed quite well this season. The Packers stumbled in week one against San Francisco, but head coach Mike McCarthy's defense has gotten better since then. It's a huge ask to expect Luck to outplay and beat Rodgers. Luck is just not ready for the task.

Why Indianapolis Will Win

It's not unheard of for betting sites analysts to take a contrarian position once in a while, and if they want to do so in this game, they'll have at least one glaring reason to think that the Colts can pull off the upset.

To be quite generous and charitable in stating the case, Green Bay's offensive line is quite poor. (Other commentators would use much harsher words. Packer fans would probably use a few profanities to describe their offensive line this season.) The Packers are cheered by fans who – owing to their Wisconsin-based identity – sometimes refer to themselves (or are referred to by outside observers) as "cheeseheads." That cheese is almost always represented as cheddar, but in the first few weeks of the 2012 season, the Packers' offensive line has more closely resembled swiss cheese. Green Bay's offensive front allowed nine – yes, nine! – sacks to the Seattle Seahawks in week three, a staggering total when one realizes how quick a release quarterback Aaron Rodgers owns. If Seattle can sack Rodgers nine times, surely Indianapolis has a chance to get two or three sacks. If those sacks can come from the blind side, they can create fumbles and provide the Colts with a pathway to victory.

Who Will Win

The Packers' offensive line is a source of concern, but Indianapolis simply does not have Green Bay's level of talent. The Colts cannot match up at quarterback or most other positions on the field. They will get waxed by the Packers this Sunday.
