Packers Panthers Betting – Newton, Panthers Welcome Defending Champs
For all of the sports betting criticism about how he couldn’t move the ball with his arm and how he would struggle at the NFL level, Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton did a pretty good job week one when he threw for 422 yards and two touchdowns. Newton has already proven that he can make plays at this level with both his arm and legs, but will be tested up against the best this week as the Panthers get set to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

NFL Betting Lines: Green Bay Packers – 9.5
As impressive as Newton was in a 28-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers was even better in a 42-34 win over the New Orleans Saints to kick off the season. Rodgers threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns and ran the no-huddle offense to perfection, setting the tone early on as Green Bay begins a long road to repeat.

NFL Betting Preview: Carolina Panthers
Dating back to his days in high school, Newton has become known for his ability to prove his detractors wrong, and he took another step in that direction against Arizona with one of the best quarterback performances from week one. It will be an entirely different monster however going up against a stingy Green Bay defense, and with the Packers’ front-seven so good at controlling the run it will once again be up to Newton to spark the offense. Newton and wide receiver Steve Smith have developed an instant chemistry with the latter registering 178 passing yards and two touchdowns week one, but the tandem of tight ends Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey will be even more important this week as the Panthers look to spread out the Packers’ Pro Bowl secondary as much as possible.
NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick
For as many things as he did well against the Cardinals in week one, it will be a completely different sportsbook promo monster for Newton in week two against a Green Bay defense loaded with Pro Bowl players, including three in the Packers’ secondary alone. With Rodgers moving the offense at a nearly perfect level, the Panthers simply don’t have the weapons on either side of the ball to keep up.
