Panthers Seahawks Betting – Seattle “D” Shuts Down Panthers
Online betting players may be watching one of the worst offenses in recent memory in Carolina, where the Carolina Panthers are toothless, but coming off a decent performance. That stops in Seattle this week, where they’ll meet a Seattle Seahawks team that needs to stay in the playoff hunt in the NFC, and their defense will take out some frustrations on the Panthers.

- Where: Qwest Field, Seattle, WA
- Pick: Seattle Seahawks -6
What’s On The Line
The poor Panthers (1-10) may have played their best game of the year last week, and still lost 24-23 at the Cleveland Browns on the back of a late field goal. The Seahawks (5-6) fell for the fourth time in five games with a 42-24 loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs, but they’re still in contention in the AFC West, so this game is far more important for them. After leaving it all out there in Cleveland, and still losing, how much do the Panthers have left in the tank? Do they have enough to put up a fight on the road?
Offensive Matchups: Panthers Seahawks Betting
Carolina got Jonathan Stewart back from injury, and he had 98 yards on the ground to spark the Panthers, who had 326 yards, which is a great day for the worst offense in the league. Mike Goodson has been a nice surprise, and he chipped in with 55 yards and a score on the ground, and another 81 yards through the air. But Jimmy Clausen is still a rookie quarterback getting used to the NFL, and he’s also just returning from injury. We’re still waiting for receiver Steve Smith to snap at some point, as well.
Seattle got stopped on the ground, running 12 times for 20 yards, they were only 3-of-12 on third down, and they committed three turnovers against the Chiefs in just over 18 minutes. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 282 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but he was picked off twice and had his wrist banged up, which is just one more injury for a player who may be made of duct tape at this point.

Defensive Matchups: Panthers Seahawks Betting
Again, the defense did everything they could to keep Carolina in the game, forcing three turnovers, but they let the Browns score on three of four trips to the red zone, and they couldn’t stop them on the ground. There was also some problems in practice this week as cornerback Chris Gamble (not the best name for a defensive back) stormed out as he was benched last week and received some criticism in meetings. If the Carolina defense can’t hold it together, the Panthers are in a ton of trouble.
The Seahawks got rolled over by the Chiefs, allowing 503 yards, although they did return the one turnover they committed for a touchdown. The Seahawks didn’t record a sack and barely put any pressure on Matt Cassel, and Seattle is now 30th in the league defensively after a solid start. During this brutal five-game stretch, the Seahawks gave up just 18 points in a win over Arizona. In the four losses, Seattle has averaged 37.5 points against. Pete Carroll will get this defense on track, but he still needs some time.

Notable Injuries: Panthers Seahawks Betting
Out of quarterbacks Tony Pike (shoulder) and Brian St. Pierre (shoulder), Pike is the one most likely to back up Clausen. Guard Geoff Schwartz (back) is questionable, while linebacker James Anderson (concussion) may not be able to go for the Panthers.
Guard Chester Pitts (ankle) probably won’t play this week, and receiver Mike Williams (foot) is a worry, but Hasselbeck (wrist), cornerback Marcus Trufant (ankle) and linebacker Lofa Tatupu (knee) should all play for the Seahawks.

Outlook and Pick: Panthers Seahawks Betting
The Seahawks are a 6-point NFL betting favorite in this contest, and they’re 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS in their two meetings against the Panthers at home. The Panthers are 0-5 on the road, and it’s not likely that they can end that in Seattle. As we said, last week was probably the best game they played all season, outside of a two-point loss in New Orleans, and they still lost in Cleveland. The mood in Carolina can’t be that positive, while the Seahawks still have something to play for. A terrible Carolina offense may be just what the Seattle defense needs to get their confidence back. Take Seattle with the points in your sports betting pick.
