Patriots Jaguars Betting Tips – Patriots Try To Hold On For Third Seed In AFC
The New England Patriots are now in trouble in terms of getting the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. They are still in prime position to nail down the No. 3 seed, however.
New England Patriots @ Jacksonville Jaguars – Sunday, December 23
Betting line: New England -15.5
Why New England Will Win
The online sports betting legal community has to respect the work that the Patriots have done this season. New England looked very lost in the middle segment of the season, playing a poor game at home against the New York Jets and making Mark Sanchez look like a respectable NFL quarterback. The Patriots were on the ropes in that game, but they somehow escaped and produced a Harry Houdini-style victory.
New England didn't immediately shake off the dust from that cobwebby and ragged outing. The Patriots struggled at home against the Buffalo Bills and made another bad quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, look really good. However, New England won that game as well, and the team's ability to pull through in tough situations seemed to unlock a new sense of confidence in coach Bill Belichick's group. The Patriots markedly improved their level of play to the point that they were able to thrash (not merely outscore) the Houston Texans a week and a half ago.
It's true that the Patriots lost to the San Francisco 49ers this past week, but they're still very much a Super Bowl contender and the choice of many pundits to win the AFC before it's all said and done. This is still a team worth trusting, especially late in the season. Moreover, after a loss, one should expect the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady to be very angry and intent on getting things right.
The other obvious reason to pick New England in this game is that Jacksonville is mailing in the rest of the season. The Jaguars were completely impotent in a decisive loss to the not-so-accomplished Miami Dolphins this past weekend. Chad Henne has been a disaster at quarterback… and that's a reflection of how good (or not so good) Blaine Gabbert was under center for this team. The Jaguars are going to be easy pickings for the Patriots.
Why Jacksonville Will Win
When football betting pundits assess this game, they're going to realize that New England has not been very imposing on the road. The Patriots lost at Seattle and Baltimore and barely beat Miami on the road, winning by only seven points. New England, as mentioned above, has allowed unproven quarterbacks to flourish against them this season, with Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers being another addition to that list.
The Pats are in a position where they could grumble about their fate, now that the Denver Broncos are likely to beat them out for the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. Jacksonville has nothing to lose and will be genuinely excited about the prospect of being able to upset the mighty Patriots.
Who Will Win
It’s possible that Jacksonville will take advantage of home field, but the Jaguars just have very little talent. New England should get back on the beam in a very big way this weekend.
