NFL Betting: The Patriots And Seahawks Play For A Title… And History
After the New England Patriots made back-to-back Super Bowls in 2004 and 2005, the Seattle Seahawks have done the same thing in 2014 and 2015. Game on in the desert.
New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks – Sunday, February 1
Sports betting line: Pick ‘em
Why New England Will Win
This is a game the Patriots have to feel confident about for a few reasons. First of all, the Patriots are a team executing and performing up to par, if not beyond it. New England was flawless in a 45-7 domination of the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game. Tom Brady, the offensive line, the team’s secondary – all were at the top of their game against the Colts, with head coach Bill Belichick having all the answers for anything and everything Indianapolis tried to do. New England now has two weeks to prepare for a Seattle team that played very poorly in the NFC Championship Game against Green Bay and was extremely lucky to have survived. Belichick is the best coach in football and very possibly the best coach of all time. He’s that good. He’s making his sixth Super Bowl appearance, tying Don Shula for the most in history. He’s won 21 playoff games, surpassing Tom Landry for first on the all-time list. He will be able to attack Seattle in the ways his team needs to.
As for the Seahawks, they have two injury concerns. Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman are both hurt. They will definitely play in the game, but they might very well be physically limited. Sherman had problems lifting his arm in the latter stages of the NFC title game. Thomas had a dislocated shoulder. They have to be at their best for Seattle to win this game. They probably won’t be.
Why Seattle Will Win
When you look at this game, you can see why the Patriots might have the edge, but you also have to realize that Seattle’s probably not going to play as poorly as it did against Green Bay. Seattle’s probably not going to commit five turnovers. Seattle’s probably not going to see Russell Wilson throw four interceptions, or even two. The Seahawks get Justin Britt back on the offensive line, which will enable them to start this game with a more effective rushing attack than what they showed in the first half against Green Bay, when they were shut down. Seattle doesn’t have good wide receivers, but if it can establish the running game early with Marshawn Lynch, it can set up the pass against the New England defense and still be effective. What Seattle can count on in this game is that it should be able to win the battles at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. That should give the Seahawks a lot of confidence going forward.
Who Will Win
The Patriots have not won a Super Bowl in 10 years. They are due. They aren’t just due, though – they have the better quarterback and the better coach. Seattle might not be healthy enough at two of its most important positions with Sherman and Thomas being banged up.
