Why San FranciscoWill Win
The online sports betting legal community has to be impressed with the way the San Francisco 49ers have responded to the loss of their opening-day starting quarterback, Alex Smith. Keep this in mind about Smith: For all of his limitations and inconsistencies, he is the same man who grew up a lot last season at the quarterback spot, enough to carry his team to the NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants. Smith did not lose that game, either – it was kick returner Kyle Williams whose muffs on punt returns delivered the fatal blows for the Niners against Big Blue. The point remains: Smith – though not one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL by any stretch – had become more of an asset than a liability for the Niners. His presence on the field had begun to matter in a positive way for this team, not a negative way.
When Smith got injured (concussion) a few weeks ago, the San Francisco organization had every right to be worried. A tie at home against the St. Louis Rams created a lot of consternation throughout the 49ers' corporate head quarters. Yet, in subsequent weeks, the worries that have pervaded this team and its locker room have melted away. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has managed to get the job done.
Kaepernick, a very mobile scrambler with the ability to throw intermediate passes (but not deep balls), has effectively managed the Niners' offense the past two weeks. Yes, San Francisco has gotten help from its defense, but Kaepernick has still made far fewer mistakes than the two quarterbacks the Niners have faced in recent weeks. San Francisco blew out the Chicago Bears at home and handled the New Orleans Saints on the road with Kaepernick in the saddle. This game against St. Louis should not prove to be all that intimidating, especially since the Niners just got through with one domed-stadium road game. They should be able to take care of this road dome game as well.
Why St. Louis Will Win
American football betting pundits know that the main question in this game is if the Rams can get out of their own way. It's a fact that St. Louis tied San Francisco on the road in the previous 2012 meeting between these teams. The Rams not only matched, but exceeded, the 49ers' level of physicality. If St. Louis can simply weed out a handful of untimely penalties – the kinds that prevented coach Jeff Fisher's team from winning that game against San Francisco a few weeks ago – the Rams can take out the Niners at home.
Who Will Win
San Francisco's defense is playing at a very high level right now. In the two weeks since that 24-24 tie at home against the Rams, the 49ers have gotten angry… and pounded opposing offenses. St. Louis is in a tough spot here. The Niners are gaining momentum in December and should win big.
