Why Dallas Will Win
When football betting gurus size up this game, they're going to assert that the Philadelphia Eagles are in a greater state of crisis and dysfunctionality than the Cowboys are. The Eagles have come unglued in recent weeks, as quarterback Michael Vick has failed to take command of Philadelphia's offense with the decisiveness, precision and productivity that head coach Andy Reid desperately needs.
The Eagles are adrift on both sides of the ball. They are a confused and hesitant team, one that doubts its coaching staff and lacks stability after the firing of former defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. Current defensive coordinator Todd Bowles – though perhaps a necessary replacement for the underperforming Castillo – has not been able to measurably improve the performance of the Eagles' defense. This team isn't losing by small margins, either – the Eagles won three games this season by a combined total of four points.
Now, though, they're getting whacked in their losses, something that speaks to the team's lack of quality and, more importantly, its diminishing level of belief. Dallas has certainly struggled in its own right, battling the turnover bug and a generally sputtering offense, but the Cowboys' issues don't run as deeply as the Eagles' problems do. It's not as though Dallas is a quality team; it's simply that Philadelphia is appreciably worse.
Why Philadelphia Will Win
Despite the Eagles' manifest struggles this season, online sports betting legal entities have a perfectly good reason to pick them over the Cowboys: Dallas lacks the toughness needed to win in the clutch. The Cowboys aren't playing horribly, but they're playing poorly in those moments when they need to play well. Dallas trailed Atlanta, 16-6, late in Sunday night's game against the Falcons.
They roared downfield on a very impressive touchdown drive to slice their deficit to 16-13. Quarterback Tony Romo looked so good on that drive, reminding all his critics and doubters of the talent he possesses, the talent he can bring to the stadium on gameday. However, Dallas' defense then allowed Atlanta's offense to hold the ball for the next five minutes, nearly running out the entirety of the game clock and ruining the Cowboys' chances at a comeback victory. The defense had been performing so well for most of the game, but when it was needed the most, it failed. This is how underachieving football teams play. The Cowboys are that kind of team, and on the road in a hostile environment, they could very well crumble. Dallas has failed to make the NFC Championship Game over the past 16 years for a reason.
Who Will Win
Which team will be better? That's not the right question. It's more a matter of which team will be worse, and right now, that team is likely to be Philadelphia. Take the Cowboys.
