New Orleans Saints @ Denver Broncos – Sunday, October 28
NFL betting line: Denver -7
Why New Orleans Will Win
The betting websites that are taking action on this game will certainly see a way in which New Orleans can prevail. The main thing that has to be said is that the Saints, with Drew Brees at quarterback, always have a legitimate chance of outscoring the opposition. Brees threw for 377 yards last weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, thriving in a road game and showing the Broncos what they have to contend with this upcoming Sunday. Brees hasn't lost much of anything in terms of his skill set. He has simply been the victim of a season in which the Saints have not enjoyed much of any continuity or stability. His performance against Tampa Bay, however, has renewed hopes in the Saints' locker room that a midseason surge is possible.
The other thing that has to be said about this game is that Denver has had a chronic problem in 2012 of starting games poorly. The Broncos have been pancake-flat in almost every first half they've played this season. Quarterback Peyton Manning, coming back from a full missed season due to a neck injury, has been noticeably inconsistent. His passes do not have the same amount of zip they once possessed in Indianapolis with the Colts. The Broncos' offensive line has been evidently spotty, and Denver receivers have struggled a lot with dropped passes and fumbles. Denver's kick returners fumbled multiple times in a Monday night game on Oct. 15 against the San Diego Chargers, and the litany of shortcomings could continue well beyond that point. Denver has been shredded by its own erratic level of play this season. New Orleans can certainly pounce on the Broncos' schizoid tendencies and gain a victory as a result.
Why Denver Will Win
When playing poker, the dealer can acquire quite a lot of centrality, and that's basically what's going to happen when Peyton Manning deals the football to his receivers against New Orleans on Sunday night. The Saints have allowed lots of big pass plays this season, conceding large chunks of offense to Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins; to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers; to Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers; and even to Josh Freeman and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, in the form of a 96-yard pass play.
The Saints' corners and safeties have simply not played well this season. You can bet that Peyton Manning is going to do his film study and identify plenty of opportunities against New Orleans' back line of defense. Denver receivers will get wide open on downfield passes, making big plays on a consistent basis. Drew Brees will not be able to outscore Eli Manning's older brother.
Who Will Win
The Saints won last weekend in Tampa Bay. They will play a second straight road game, flying to a Mountain time zone location while having to deal with the elevation in Denver. They'll also have to deal with Peyton Manning's passing. This does not set up well for New Orleans. Take Denver in this situation.
