NFL Betting: How Good Is The Oakland Raiders?
Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs – Sunday October 13, 2013
The AFC West was supposed to be a case of the Denver Broncos and three other teams. But the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders refuse to let the Broncos run away with the title. The Chiefs are currently matching the Broncos win for win as both teams boast a 5-0 record. But the NFL betting experts are quick to point out that the Raiders are 2-3 and just got done upsetting the San Diego Chargers. This game represents Oakland’s chance to push itself into the AFC West battle and hand Kansas City its first win. But Oakland has a lot of work to do before it can expect to take down the Kansas City Chiefs.
Keep An Eye On: Raiders Defense
The sports betting experts have the Raiders defense ranked 17th in the NFL, but that was a pretty impressive performance the team put on when it held quarterback Philip Rivers and the San Diego offense to only 17 points. The key to any team’s success is its defense. This is especially true in Oakland where young quarterback Terrelle Pryor is still learning the ropes. The Oakland defense looked overwhelmed in the first three games of the season, but it held its own in week four. Now Oakland’s defense gets to measure itself against the methodical Kansas City offense, which should be a very interesting matchup to watch.
Watch The Progress Of: Terrelle Pryor (Raiders), Alex Smith (Chiefs)
A lot of online betting experts scoffed at Terrelle Pryor when he boasted that he would be the Oakland starting quarterback. Now that he is, it is Pryor who is working hard to have the last laugh. The Raiders are so confident in Pryor that the team has released veteran quarterback Matt Flynn and Flynn’s expensive contract. New Kansas City head coach Andy Reid is using new Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith in the same way that Smith was used in San Francisco. Alex Smith is not being asked to do anything heroic with the ball. He is managing games and doing his best to protect the football. At this point, that is all that Smith needs to do to win, and that is all the Andy Reid will allow him to do.
The Raiders are definitely headed in the right direction, but the Oakland offense is not going to be able to deal with the Kansas City defense. As for Alex Smith, he will hand the ball off to Jamaal Charles and throw the ball with efficiency down the field. This will not be an easy win for Kansas City by any stretch. But it will be a game that the Chiefs should be able to cover the spread and come away with a 6-0 record that keeps them battling with the Broncos for that AFC West title.
Odds: Chiefs -8 1/2
