Redskins Browns Betting Predictions – Banged-Up Redskins Must Find A Way To Survive

The Washington Redskins are hopeful that Robert Griffin III can play against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, but hope and reality are two different things. Uncertainty still prevails.

Why Washington Will Win

When poker is played, having a good backup plan matters, and that's what might rescue the Redskins here. Robert Griffin III's right knee got injured late in the team's win over Baltimore this past Sunday, and so it's very understandable that a lot of people might think that Cleveland is going to win this contest. However, one has to immediately jump up and point out that Washington beat Baltimore by scoring the final 11 points of the game with a quarterback other than Griffin.

Kirk Cousins, the rookie out of Michigan State, led the Redskins to a touchdown and a tying two-point conversion in the final minute of regulation to lift Washington into overtime with a 28-28 score. Cousins then answered the bell in overtime to lead his offense on a game-winning field goal drive. Clearly, at a time when Redskin fans and players could have lost heart, Cousins did not allow his team to slip.

This is a perfectly capable leader who has earned the trust of his teammates, and that's a very powerful reason to think that Washington can win this game on the road, even if Griffin does not make it back to the starting lineup.

Why Cleveland Will Win

It's not unheard of for analysts at online sports books to change their tune on a given game in accordance with the ebb-and-flow of the regular season, and this contest offers a perfect case in point.

Cleveland was a miserable mess of a team a few weeks ago. The Browns blew late leads (to Dallas) and stumbled against Baltimore at home on a day when the Ravens' offense did not function very well. Cleveland, in November, had just two wins to its credit, and a lot of people in and around the NFL thought that the Browns would just fade into further obscurity, irrelevance and ineptitude. However, Cleveland has shown some spunk and some spine. The Browns have rallied to win three straight games.

Their defense forced a whopping eight turnovers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then the team won in Oakland against the Raiders, with the 20-17 score being the result of a late garbage touchdown; Cleveland essentially won that game by a 10-point margin, not a mere field goal. Last week, the Browns hammered Kansas City, doing what any solid NFL team does against an overmatched opponent. A three-game winning streak? Believe it. Even if Robert Griffin III does play with a mild knee sprain, Cleveland is now a different team compared to what it was in the middle of November. The Browns believe in themselves, and that's a pretty new thing in northeastern Ohio.

Who Will Win

Cleveland will have a very legitimate chance to win this contest precisely because of Griffin's diminished physical capacity, but the Redskins are flourishing right now and have shown that they can win with Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Take Washington here.
