Redskins vs Cowboys odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
The Redskins (3-6) snapped a four-game skid with a 27-17 win at home over Denver, using a rushing game that ran down the clock. The Cowboys (6-3) had a four-game winning streak halted with a 17-7 loss at Green Bay, and Dallas was hurt by turnovers and penalties. The Cowboys will be trying to stay atop the NFC East, while the Redskins are still in it, if they can start an unlikely run.

Redskins vs Cowboys odds maker breakdown: Offense
Washington got 174 yards on the ground in the Denver win, led by 114 yards and a score from Ladell Betts, who replaced the injured Clinton Portis. This is a smart plan for the Redskins, as it’s been proven that the passing game can’t be trusted with Jason Campbell and a terrible offensive line. The Redskins were 2-of-4 in the red zone against the Broncos, which is encouraging to a team that is 28th in scoring.
The Cowboys couldn’t get anything going against an inspired Green Bay defense led by Charles Woodson, and they didn’t even score until 38 seconds left in the game. Dallas committed three turnovers, including a pair of turnovers, and their mistakes cancelled out Green Bay’s: the Packers has 12 penalties, but the Cowboys had 10. Dallas also had only 61 yards rushing, but they still have the No.4 offense in the NFL.

Redskins vs Cowboys odds maker breakdown: Defense
The defense is basically the only reason you should consider the Redskins’ online sports betting odds, as they’re fifth in the league. They held the Broncos to 305 yards and knocked Denver pivot Kyle Orton out of the game before harassing his replacement, Chris Simms. The defense is even better than the numbers indicate, but the offense keeps putting them in bad positions, or they’re on the field for too long.
The Dallas defense actually did a good job against the Packers, holding them to 283 yards, and they really stopped Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers from going down the field. The Cowboys sacked Rodgers four times, and caused him to fumble three times, recovering one. Still, based on the numbers, they’re not as good as their Washington counterparts.

Redskins vs Cowboys odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Portis (concussion) is still being nursed to health and may not play this week, either. Punter Hunter Smith (groin) returned to the lineup, but he managed to throw a touchdown. Tight end Chris Cooley (ankle) is no closer to a return, either. Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (ankle) said he’ll be all right for this week.
The Cowboys took a beating against the Packers, as right tackle Marc Colombo (knee) may be out for the year, while corners Mike Jenkins (arm) and Alan Ball (leg) also went down, and safety Ken Hamlin (ankle) wrapped up the injury woes for Dallas. Felix Jones (foot) was eased back into the lineup for the Redskins.
Betting Edge: Draw
Redskins vs Cowboys odds for total: 41.5
Three of the last five between these two have gone under the posted total, and it should end up as another under. The Redskins broke 17 points for the first time all season, and now they’re out on the road, where they are 0-4. Romo was obviously going out of his way to find Roy Williams after the receiver made comments in the press about poorly-thrown balls, which is sure to mess up the balance of the unit.
Pick: UNDER 41.5
Redskins vs Cowboys betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
Washington’s 26-24 win over the Cowboys last year was their second in 10 trips to Dallas, and while they won’t win this week, they’ll at least cover. Of those 10 meetings, seven were decided by a touchdown or less, and 12 points is far too much to lay right now, especially with how Dallas’ offense looked last week. They’re facing a defense that is better than Green Bay’s, and even at home, they’ll struggle to put up points. The Washington offense should send them to a loss, but it’s the defense that will stop the Cowboys from covering a far-too-large spread.
