Saints Panthers Betting – Panthers Put Scare Into Saints, Betting Players Reap Rewards
Carolina has been a great sports betting wager because of their ability to score late touchdowns, which makes them dangerous with an inconsistent New Orleans defense coming into town this weekend. The Panthers have the stuff to cover, and they could very well pull out the upset in North Carolina.

Why Bet On New Orleans Saints (3-1 SU, 3-1 ATS)
The Saints dominated Jacksonville thoroughly in a 23-10 win on the road, racking up 503 total yards while holding the Jaguars to 274 yards, and they doubled the Jags in first downs (30-15). Drew Brees was 31-of-44 for 351 yards and a touchdown, but he was also picked off twice. Darren Sproles continues his solid all-around season, posting 75 yards on the ground and 56 yards through the air, while tight end Jimmy Graham added 10 catches for 132 yards for the Saints, who also ran for 177 yards as a team. Defensively, they sacked Blaine Gabbert three times and were a general nuisance for the rookie quarterback, picking him off once.
But if you look a little closer, it could have been a much better game for the Saints, who were held to a trio of field goals in the second half when they could have salted the game, and New Orleans was only 2-of-5 in the red zone. Brees, who is usually efficient, was picked off a couple of times to keep Jacksonville in the game. The Saints had the ball for over 37 minutes and really should have put this game away, but you also have to give credit to the Jacksonville defense, which harried Brees all day. New Orleans also gave Jacksonville four first downs because of penalties. Overall, the Saints got the win and that is all that is important, but New Orleans should have blown the Jaguars away on the road, and a better team would make them pay for it.
Why Bet On Carolina Panthers (1-3 SU, 3-1 ATS)
The Carolina offense made mincemeat of Chicago’s defense, but still fell in a 34-29 loss in the Windy City as they racked up 543 yards. Cam Newton was 27-of-46 for 374 yards, a touchdown and a pick, but the Panthers are now 0-3 when he has 300 yards or more. The Panthers are trying to establish the run more to take the pressure off the No.1 pick, and they picked up 169 yards on the ground as DeAngelo Williams (10 rushes for 82 yards) and Jonathan Stewart (eight rushes for 52 yards) are starting to get on track. This Carolina offense is going to be explosive for years to come and as they become more balanced, they’ll be more lethal.
But NFL betting players know that football is a total team sport, and the defense and special teams let the Panthers down in Chicago. The Bears ran for 224 yards, including 205 yards by Matt Forte, while Devin Hester ran a punt back 69 yards to the house in the second quarter. Kicker Olindo Mare missed two field goals, including one from 34 yards that was blocked by former Panther Julius Peppers. The Panthers also committed eight penalties, which is to be expected of the league’s youngest team, but they have to be more disciplined to stay in games. The offense wasn’t completely blame-free as they were 2-of-12 on third down, and a couple more first downs would have probably been the difference. When it comes to injuries for this game, keep an eye on tight end Jeremy Shockey (finger, concussion) and defensive back Chris Gamble (concussion). The pieces are in place for the Panthers, and you have to remember that they have a first-year head coach in Ron Rivera. If they can keep this team together, the Panthers are going to be fun to watch.
How It Will Play Out
NFL betting odds have the Saints as a 6-point favorite on the road, and they’re 3-2 SU in their last five meetings, but only 1-4 ATS with four games falling under the posted total. Two of those games have come in North Carolina, with the Saints going 1-1 SU and ATS. Early in the season, the Panthers have become a team that comes out of nowhere to cover, usually with a late touchdown because Newton doesn’t know the meaning of taking his foot off the gas.
The Saints will likely blitz Newton a lot, but he has the mobility and size to give them trouble, and the Panthers should be able to cover this week, if not pull off the upset win. New Orleans’ defense has been up and down so far this year, and they’re going to have their hands full with Newton. We’re taking the young Panthers to at least cover the online betting spread.Saints Panthers Betting Pick: Carolina Panthers
