Seahawks Confident, But Not Looking Past NFC Divisional Game Versus Saints
The Seattle Seahawks absolutely dominated the New Orleans Saints for a 34-7 win back in week 13 of the NFL season. That doesn’t mean they will be taking anything for granted in this week’s playoff rematch. Seattle is listed as an eight-point online sports betting favorite heading in to this weekend’s NFC Divisional round match up against the Saints, as they look to carry over their substantial home-field advantage coming out of a first-round playoff bye. The Seahawks are certainly not lacking confidence, but they can’t afford to look past a determined opponent this week.
NFC Divisional Round
New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks
Saturday January 11, 2014 – 4:35 PM ET
CenturyLink Field, Seattle, Washington
NFL Sports Betting Line: Seattle – 8
New Orleans will be looking for a measure of revenge in this rematch, and they should be playing with a little more confidence after last week’s win at Philadelphia. The Saints had won just three of eight games on the road during the regular season, and need to find a way to carry over some of the momentum from last week’s Wild Card win.
NFL Betting Preview: New Orleans Saints
Any chance for New Orleans will rely heavily on the arm of Drew Brees, who threw for 250 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles, but also threw two picks. Brees can’t afford to make those mistakes against this Seattle defense, and the pressure will be on in a loud environment after struggling mightily in the initial meeting. The Saints finally got their ground game going with 185 total rushing yards against Philadelphia, including 97 yards and a touchdown from running back Mark Ingram. The New Orleans’ defense also stepped up in holding the Eagles to under 300 total yards, and will need a big performance this week after being torched by the Seahawks earlier in the season.
NFL Betting Preview: Seattle Seahawks
The Saints’ defense can’t be completely blamed for its performance against Seattle, as they constantly found themselves defending a short field. That said, Russell Wilson threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns in that Seattle win, with running back Marshawn Lynch rumbling for just 45 yards before Robert Turbin took over. The Seahawks’ offense was nearly perfect in that victory, and will have had plenty of time to prepare for this game. They also benefited from a 22-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Michael Bennett, and the Seattle defense will be hungry for turnovers again this week with an eye on the endzone and the chance to put up some points.
NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick
Seattle completely dominated the initial online betting meeting between these teams, and there isn’t much reason to expect anything different this time around as they hold the home-field advantage after an extra week to prepare. The Seahawks moved the ball almost at will when they played the Saints during the regular season, and they will look to do so again this weekend as they are once again backed up by a dominant defense.
