Seahawks Browns Betting – Lynch, Seahawks Go To The Ground In Cleveland
The sports betting matchup in Cleveland that features the Browns hosting Seattle should be an interesting clash of styles as neither team is an offense juggernaut, so it’s going to come down to a strong rushing game, ball control and minimizing your mistakes; we think Seattle will do a better job in all three facets.

Where: Browns Stadium, Cleveland, OH
Pick: Seattle Seahawks (+3)
Why Bet On Seattle Seahawks (2-3 SU, 3-2 ATS)
The Seahawks should be well-rested after a bye week, and in their last game, they were seen beating the New York Giants 36-25 on the road, which shows they can go to the Eastern time zone and claim a victory, which is going to be crucial as they have four more road games outside of their zone. That the Seahawks put up 36 points on a very good Giants defense has to be encouraging for head coach Pete Carroll, as Seattle’s offense is 30th in the league and neither the run (29th in the NFL) or the pass (26th) are in a good spot. However, receiver Doug Baldwin has been a nice surprise for the Seahawks as Sidney Rice has been disappointing, giving Tarvaris Jackson at least one dependable target. The defense is 18th in the league, but they’re seventh in the NFL in pass defense. Safety Earl Thomas had a fantastic rookie season and he continues to improve in his sophomore year.
That being said, the defense would be much better if they had more than eight sacks, and end Chris Clemons has four of those, so they’ll need more of a pass rush. The Seahawks are 23rd against the run as well, which would play into Cleveland’s hands if their star running back is playing and in the mood (more on that soon). Seattle has some injuries to worry about coming out of their bye as receiver Mike Williams (concussion) has to be cleared to play. More importantly, Jackson (pectoral) hasn’t been cleared to play yet, so you’ll have to keep your eye on the injury report later this week because if he can’t go, the Seahawks will have to go with Charlie Whitehurst.
Why Bet On Cleveland Browns (2-3 SU, 2-2-1 ATS)
Even though it’s a passing league now, you still have to be able to run the ball and the Browns couldn’t in a 24-17 loss in Oakland, managing just 65 yards on the ground and of course, they had to get rid of the running game in the second half as they were getting behind. Colt McCoy had 215 yards and two touchdowns, but he was still 21-of-45 and that isn’t efficient enough when you can’t run the ball. The Browns also gave up a 101-yard kickoff return, which is the difference in the game. But if you take away a couple of positives, it’s that the defense held the Oakland passing game to 178 yards and took Jason Campbell out of the game (possibly for the season with a broken collarbone) and rookie receiver Greg Little is starting to heat up. Little had six catches for 72 yards and he can be a reliable target for McCoy with his ability to get yards after the catch.
But there are a lot of problems in Cleveland as Josh Cribbs isn’t happy with his role in the offense, so head coach Pat Shurmur will have to figure out how to get him involved. Hillis (hamstring) is unlikely to play this week, but he has been disappointing all season in the face of a contract dispute anyway, leaving Montario Hardesty to carry the load and while Hardesty has done an admirable job, Hillis is Cleveland’s best offense weapon; however, he may be earning a ticket out of Cleveland. Cornerback Joe Haden (knee) will probably be out as well, so be sure to check the injury report later this week.
How It Will Play Out
Cleveland is a 3-point NFL betting favorite in this clash, and these two have met three times since 2001 with Seattle going 2-1 SU and 1-1-1 ATS against the Browns, with two games going under the posted total. Two of those games have come in Cleveland, with the Browns going 1-1 SU and 1-0-1 ATS.
The Browns are 27th in the league against the run, and that means they’re going to get a steady dose of Marshawn Lynch, who had 98 yards against the Giants in his best game of the season. Don’t expect a lot of points in this game as neither team is very explosive and depend on their ability to control the clock. The edge goes to Carroll, Lynch and the Seahawks on the road in your online betting picks.
