Texans Raiders Betting – Raiders Lock Up Texans, Get To .500
Sports bettingplayers may be a little surprised by an improved Oakland Raiders team that should have won last week, but the Raiders have another shot to prove they can make some noise in the AFC West when they host Houston. The Texans’ offense is explosive, but their biggest weapon is limping, and the Raiders will take advantage of that, as well as Houston’s terrible defense.

What’s On The Line
The Houston Texans (2-1) were brought back to earth with a 27-13 loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys, but to be fair the Cowboys had far more to play for, while Houston was due for a letdown. The Raiders (1-2) fell 24-23 at the Arizona Cardinals behind three missed field goals from kicker Sebastian Janikowski, but they’ve played pretty well this year and are at least putting forth a good effort. Both teams need a win to keep up in their competitive AFC divisions.
Offensive Matchups: Texans Raiders Betting
The Texans rank fourth in the league offensively, and while they lost to the Cowboys, it appears as though the offense is getting some balance in the form of Arian Foster, who ran 17 times for 106 yards. We all know the Texans can throw it with Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson, but if Foster can continue to be consistent, that will add another dimension, and take some of the pressure off Schaub, who threw a pair of picks against Dallas.
Darren McFadden had another good game for the Raiders, running for 105 yards and a score, and given their struggles in the air, Oakland will take all the 100-yard games they can get. We love Bruce Gradkowski’s grit, but he’s not taking a team to the playoffs on the strength of his arm. The Oakland receivers are also starting to come around, and this offense could be pretty good by the end of the season.

Defensive Matchups: Texans Raiders Betting
Houston needs to shore up on this side of the ball, coming in 31st in the league. They gave up 385 yards against the Cowboys, and it’s the big plays that are killing them. They didn’t sack Tony Romo once, and barely pressured him all day, and with the talent at quarterback in the league, Houston can’t afford to let pivots sit back and pick apart their porous secondary. Safety Bernard Pollard had 15 tackles, which means the Cowboys were getting into the second and third levels regularly.
The Raiders’ defense is actually pretty solid, tied second in the league with the Green Bay Packers. They held the Cardinals to 227 yards and forced three turnovers, which makes the loss that much more stinging. The impressive secondary is going to get a workout against the Texans, and the matchup of Johnson against cornerback Nmandi Osamugha may be the factor that decides the game. Everyone talks about the Jets’ Darrelle Revis being the best cover corner in the league, but smart NFL betting players know Osamugha is just as good, or not very far behind.

Notable Injuries: Texans Raiders Betting
Johnson (ankle) is a big worry as he’s expected not to practice this week at all, but he’ll probably play. Safety Eugene Wilson (hamstring) is also a worry for the Texans, who are still without linebacker Brian Cushing (suspension).
End Richard Seymour (hamstring) wasn’t feeling well after the Arizona game, and the Raiders need someone who is going to pressure Schaub.

Outlook and Pick: Texans Raiders Betting
NFL betting odds have the Texans as a 3-point favorite on the road, and they’ve dominated the Raiders in recent years, going 4-1 both SU and ATS. But we’re going to go against the record and take the Raiders at home. Oakland let last week’s game get away from them, but they look so much more focused in 2010. Defensively, they can shut down the Houston attack, especially if Johnson’s ankle doesn’t heal. Offensively, the wideouts can attack the Texans, and Gradkowski doesn’t have to be Peyton Manning, he only needs to be efficient. Take the Raiders in your online betting picks at home.
