Titans vs 49ers Odds - Niners defense will pressure Vince Young into mistakes
Titans vs 49ers odds: 49ers -4 (Total 41)
Titans vs 49ers odds maker breakdown: The Storyline
Kerry Collins was finally regulated to the bench last week so the Titans could start determining if Vince Young is their future. The switch worked out as Tennessee picked up its first win of the year by beating Jacksonville 30-13. The team looks to build momentum and carry it into next season. The 49ers suffered a tough 18-14 road loss to the Colts. San Francisco led much of the game but couldn't finish the job. Now, at 3-4, the 49ers have a long way to climb to get back into the Wild Card or NFC West race.
Titans vs 49ers odds maker breakdown: Offense
Tennessee exploded for 30 points and over 400 yards last week, but it can't all be chalked up to the quarterback switch. Chris Johnson had an insane game, rushing for 228 yards and two scores on 24 carries, including touchdown runs of 52 and 89 yards. Young was efficient, going 15/18 with a touchdown and no interceptions. Alex Smith came back down to earth after his second-half heroics against Houston a few weeks ago. He was 19/32 for 198 yards plus a touchdown and pick but, in his defense, the 49ers didn't really allow him the freedom to grip it and rip it like the previous week. Frank Gore had a good game, racking up 134 yards from scrimmage on 18 carries. Betting Edge: Even
Titans vs 49ers odds maker breakdown: Defense
San Fran's defense was excellent against the high-powered Colts. Peyton Manning, though he threw for 347 yards, was held without a touchdown pass. The Indy running game managed just 61 yards on 21 carries. The Niners "D" has been inconsistent but it’s A-game is as good as any. The Titans were ravaged on the ground by Maurice Jones-Drew, who needed just eight carries to amass 177 yards and two touchdowns, which went for 79 and 80 yards. The pass defense was superb, though, as David Garrard managed just 14/27 for 139 yards and two interceptions. Garrard was sacked four times. Betting Edge: 49ers
Titans vs 49ers odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Nate Washington's balky quad has slowed him down but he's at least back in the lineup for Tennessee. The 49ers suffered a brutal loss when left tackle Joe Staley went down with a knee injury; he'll be out six weeks. Corner Nate Clements will be out a similar time period after breaking his shoulder. Titans vs 49ers odds for total: 41
The 49ers defense is in fine form right now, particularly against the run, so Johnson won't have much room to work with. The Titans showed some serious weakness on the ground against Jacksonville and Gore should be able to take advantage—just enough so this total will hit the over at your offshore sportsbook. Pick: OVER 41
Titans vs 49ers betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
The Titans finally got their first win of the season, but San Francisco was more impressive in its loss to Indianapolis—possibly the best team in the NFL. The 49ers defense will shut down Chris Johnson and put the pressure on Vince Young to carry the team—something he can't do. STAN'S PICK: 49ers -4
