NFL's Best Week 16 Underdog Picks
With just two weeks of the regular season remaining the NFL playoffs have almost taken shape, and the top five picks in next year's draft are almost set as well. Two teams who are competing for that top draft spot are the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars, two squads that square-off this Thursday night looking for their third win of the year. Other Week 16 underdogs are looking to make the playoffs, and must do more than play a close game if they hope to be a winner when Sunday ends.
Tennessee Titans +3
The Titans are far from a complete football team which is they reason they have just two wins through 15 weeks of NFL action. Jake Locker returned to the field last week only be leave with yet another injury, making Charlie Whitehurst the starter under center when the Titans take the field Thursday night. The Titans have lacked an offensive identity all season long, but going up against the Jaguars means their defensive presence will be more important than their offensive. Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has become a turnover machine this season with 17 interceptions to go with five fumbles. If the Titans can take care of the football, cause a turnover or two of their own, and move the ball against one of the leagues worst defenses they should have no problem beating the Jaguars at home.
Minnesota Vikings +6.5
The Minnesota Vikings are on the road this coming Sunday and they'll be going up against a 7-7 Miami Dolphins squad that has now dropped consecutive games for the second time this season. The Vikings on the otherhand looked to be headed for their third straight win when they took an early lead over the Detroit Lions, but they failed to score in the second half of the game and also missed two field goals and had one blocked. The Vikings are playing like one of the better team's in the NFC, and with Teddy Bridgewater now throwing for over 300 yards in consecutive weeks the Vikings offense appears to be hitting its stride. The Vikings defense is one of the more underrated units in the league, and if both Anthony Barr and Sharrif Floyd return for this game it will only increase their chances at stealing a victory on the road.
Chicago Bears +4
Divisional match-ups are perfect for sports bettors, as they routinely are closer than expected, which is exactly why the Chicago Bears are such a great pick this week against the Detroit Lions. The Bears are at home and get four points, and although they've really fallen apart in recent weeks they still have one of the most talent-rich offenses in the league. Jay Cutler has let his interception total rise to 15, his highest mark since 2010, but Matt Forte is fourth in the league in receptions and is an all-around threat that will be tough for the Lions to contain. Detroit is coming off a lucky win against the Vikings, and if they don't come with a better effort this Sunday they'll be dropping a much-needed game to the Chicago Bears.
