NFL's Best Week 17 Underdog Picks
The final week of the regular season has come which means it's the last game for more than half the league. The better squads will continue to play in the postseason, but others, mainly teams that have been underdogs all season long, have just one more game to prove their worth and show improvement heading into next season. A few Week 17 underdogs will be playing again next Sunday, but the vast majority will see their season end when the clock strikes zero.
San Diego Chargers +2.5
The San Diego Chargers are 2.5-point underdogs to the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that just lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers and is now on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason. The Chargers on the otherhand had a memorable comeback victory over the San Francisco 49ers this past Saturday and proved they have an offense that's nearly impossible to contain. Philip Rivers finished with over 300 passing yards for the fourth time this season while also raising his touchdown total to 31. The Chargers were able to run the ball somewhat effectively, but will likely see it play a bigger role next week as the Chiefs defense is one of the worst at stopping the run, but one of the best at stopping the pass. These two teams were separated by just three points when they faced off earlier in the season, but now with the playoffs on the line the Chargers, even on the road, are the smart sports betting pick.
Philadelphia Eagles +3
The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves as the underdog against the New York Giants in Week 17 even though their last three victories are against teams with a losing record. The Giants did recently beat the Washington Redskins, the Eagles' Week 16 opponent, but their other victories include the Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams. The Giants have won three straight while the Eagles have lost three in a row, but that doesn't mean they aren't the better team as they rank sixth in passing yards and ninth in rushing yards per game. The Giants defense will have no answer for the high-powered Eagles offense, and as a result they'll take the early lead and be the eventual victor in one of the weeks easiest underdog picks.
Detroit Lions +8
The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers will meet at Lambeau Field this Sunday to decide the NFC North champion. Winner takes all while the loser gets knocked down to a Wild Card spot, making this one of the most important games of the weekend. The Lions are riding a four-game winning streak with three of those victories coming against NFC North rivals. Calvin Johnson is fully healthy now and finally playing like the best receiver in the game, however, the Packers will also have to worry about the Lions' leading receiver, Golden Tate. Tate is nearing 100 catches on the year and has1,286 receiving yards to go with four touchdowns. The Packers have their own pair of 1,000-yard receivers in Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, making this a game where the airing out the ball will decide the victor.
