Panthers, Giants Among Best Underdog Bets For Week Eight In The NFL
By the time the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks kicked off last week the line for the game had moved all the way up to 9.5 points which is somewhat ludicrous when you consider the way the two teams had performed in the games leading up to that showdown. Ironically, the Cowboys win over Seattle has pushed them to the other side of an inflated line this week and it’s no surprise that the team they are playing is one of the three best underdog bets for week eight in the NFL.
Carolina Panthers (+7) @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday, 1:00 PM ET
The Packers needed a 10-0 fourth-quarter rally to steal a 27-24 win at Miami last week and are just 3-2-1 against the spread this season but they are listed as seven-point favorites at home against the Panthers. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense has scored 27 points or more in three-straight wins but each of those victories came against teams that have struggled to run the football and failed to capitalize against the Packers’ 32nd-ranked run defense. Carolina’s running backs are banged up but Cam Newton averaged 6.3 yards per carry on the ground for 107 rushing yards and a score last week and the Panthers proved they can put up points against a pretty good defense in a 37-37 tie with Cincinnati. Carolina might not outscore Rodgers and the Green Bay offense at Lambeau but they should score more than enough points to keep this game close and cover the seven-point spread.
NFL Betting Pick: Carolina Panthers +7
New York Giants (+6) @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, 4:25 PM ET
The NFL is all about perception and the Cowboys were elevated from pretender to Super Bowl contenders with last week’s win over Seattle. However, three of Dallas’ five wins have come by a margin of seven points or less including three-point wins over both St. Louis and Houston and they could be due for a letdown after such a big victory last week. Meanwhile, the Giants are coming off a letdown of their own after their three-game win streak was snapped in a 27-0 loss to Philadelphia last week. New York had scored 30 or more points in three-straight wins before being shut out last week so look for Eli Manning and company to bounce back with a better performance this week while Dallas struggles to match last week’s effort. The Cowboys could very well extend their win streak to six on Sunday but it should be a close NFC East clash as the Giants cover.
NFL Betting Pick: New York Giants +6
San Francisco 49ers (+6.5) @ Denver Broncos
Sunday, 8:30 PM ET
The 49ers have rallied together under the intense media scrutiny that followed the club in to the season and put together three-straight wins to climb back in to playoff position. Colin Kaepernick and the passing attack has made improvements and that has the San Francisco offense firing on all cylinders along with a tough rushing attack led by Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde. Denver has posted consecutive wins to get to 4-1 but they needed a late pick-six last week to cover against the New York Jets and they are still just 2-3 against the spread this season. Remember, this is the same 49ers’ team that blew away Dallas in its opener and is a more complete team now than it was at the beginning of the year. If the Cowboys can upset the Seahawks in Seattle then it makes sense to take nearly a touchdown and bet the 49ers to at the very least keep it close against the Broncos in Denver.
NFL Betting Pick: San Francisco 49ers +6.5
