Bet NHL Playoffs – Next Series Likely To Begin Next Weekend

The amount of possible NHL betting picks one could make next week is likely to be very small. Why? All four conference semifinal series could be done and dusted by then.

NHL Next Week Betting Picks: No Games Set At Press Time, But Some Hints Exist

The sports betting community might just turn over the spotlight next week to MLB baseball betting experts, because there’s going to be a dearth of NHL playoff games. Just look at the larger landscape of the hockey postseason before the start of Friday evening’s games in the conference semifinal round.

Friday night, San Jose – leading three games to none – can eliminate Detroit from the playoffs. Also on Friday, roughly one hour after the puck is dropped in the state of Michigan, the Boston Bruins will take on the Philadelphia Flyers. Boston leads that series three games to nothing, in a repeat of last year’s Eastern Conference semifinal clash between the two teams. One would think, though, that the Bruins aren’t going to blow the three-game lead they established against the Flyers last year. A comeback from a 3-0 series deficit is something that happens once every 33 to 35 years. The NHL’s first such example of a 3-0 comeback occurred in 1942. The second example unfolded in 1975, and the third one came to pass last year when Philadelphia bounced Boston. Don’t expect anything like that to happen this year.

NHL betting circles also aren’t expecting Detroit to last more than five games against San Jose. The Sharks gained a 3-0 series lead against the Red Wings in last year’s playoffs and finished off the Winged Wheel in five, so why should this year’s 3-0 series start for the Sharks be any different? San Jose is playing with a world of confidence, and goalie Antti Niemi – who stood on his head for portions of Game 3 on Wednesday night in Detroit – is displaying the form in net that earned him a Stanley Cup title in 2010 with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The only series that’s even halfway competitive right now is the Nashville-Vancouver battle, a rugged series in which Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne has given the Canucks fits. Yet, Vancouver has made life even more miserable for the Predators’ top scorers. Vancouver went into the state of Tennessee this past week and won two games, one of them in overtime, to claim a 3-1 series lead. Unless Nashville can win a second game in Vancouver in this series on Saturday night, there won’t be a Game 6 next Monday in Music City U.S.A.

Then, of course, the Tampa Bay Lightning have already defeated the Washington Capitals in four games. The truth is plain: If San Jose and Boston win on Friday and Vancouver wins on Saturday, there won’t be any hockey for several days next week. Maybe the NHL will start a series on a Thursday, but it’s very possible that action won’t resume until Saturday with one of the two conference finals. Because Canadian Broadcasting wants to show a Canadian team, it’s likely that San Jose and Vancouver will play next Saturday night in Vancouver. If that happens, take the Sharks in Game 1 due to their superior skill and size.

NHL Betting Pick: San Jose over Vancouver next Saturday if that series does start on Saturday, May 14 (If there’s a Game 6 between Vancouver and Nashville on Monday, pick Vancouver to end that series with a victory.)
