Bruins Sabres Betting Tips – Bruins Look To Spoil Party In Buffalo In Third Meeting Of The Season Between Division Rivals

Posted by Don Melrose on 2/12/2013 6:04:52 PM

When the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres meet on the ice, it is sure to be a physical affair. After splitting their first two meetings this season, the Northeast division rivalry shifts back to Buffalo on Friday for the third sports betting contest of the season between these teams. The Sabres handed Boston its only regulation loss of the season so far when they invaded the TD Garden earlier in the year for a 7-4 win, but conceded a 3-1 loss to the Bruins on home ice this past Sunday. Boston is 7-0-1 this season against teams other than Buffalo, and will look for their second consecutive win at First Niagara Center.

The Sabres’ slow start includes a lack of jump out of the gate at home, where they have just two wins through their first five games. The Bruins on the other hand have been excellent on the road, going 4-0-1 through their first give games as the visiting team.

With a strong group of two-way forwards up front, a solid three defense pairs, and a young goalie that has proven his self capable of handling the No. 1 role, Boston may have the most complete team in the NHL this season. The Bruins’ top-ranked penalty kill has helped them early on, as they rank sixth in the NHL in goals per game allowed with Tuukka Rask holding down the fort in goal. Boston’s offensive attack is also much more balanced this season thanks to the return of Nathan Horton, who missed all of last year with a concussion. Horton has spent most of his time on the Bruins’ top line with Milan Lucic and David Krejci, while blooming star Tyler Seguin has thrived next to Patrice Begeron and Brad Marchand.

The Sabres don’t have the same level of depth that Boston does, but their top line has been lights out this year with Thomas Vanek leading the way. Vanek has paced Buffalo with a team-high 11 goals and 12 assists, and is among the league leaders in points with 23. Cody Hogson is emerging as the team’s No. 1 center next to Vanek and captain Jason Pominville, but the Sabres still need to play better hockey in their own end. Ryan Miller has struggled to keep his goals against average below 3 this season as the team in front of him has had far too many defensive lapses, and his lack of confidence has him fighting to find pucks far more often than he should be.

NHL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

The Sabres have already proven they can handle Boston when they are at their best, but it will take a complete and aggressive effort from the opening faceoff, which is something they lacked in their last meeting. Solving Rask early will be among the keys after being held to a single goal in their last meeting, and they did put up seven tallies in the initial meeting when they handed the Bruins their only online betting loss of the year so far.
