Online NHL Bet – Penguins, Capitals Look To Punch Ticket For Second Round Saturday

Posted by Don Melrose on 4/21/2011 12:42:53 PM

The opening round of the 2011 NHL playoffs will heat up this weekend with a couple of key matchups to look forward to, including two teams that can potentially punch their ticket to get through to the second round. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will both play on home ice Saturday with the chance to advance with a win, but that is not until one team in two other key series’ moves within a game of clinching on Friday, as the countdown to this year’s Kentucky derby betting continues.

Buffalo Sabres @ Philadelphia Flyers

Friday, 7:30 PM ET

The game plan for Buffalo is simple at this point: Grind it out. After securing it’s first two wins in the series by 1-0 scores, the Sabres understand that in order to have any chance of advancing past the defending Eastern conference champions they will need to play a defensive style and limit Philadelphia’s chances while capitalizing on their own. The Flyers have scored nine goals combined in their two wins while failing to net a single marker in their two losses. Ryan Miller will need to be huge in goal again for Buffalo to steal another one on the road, but he has already proven that he can get the sports betting job done if his team rallies around him.

NHL Betting Pick: Buffalo Sabres

Nashville Predators @ Anaheim Ducks

Friday, 10:00 PM ET

This has undoubtedly been the most unpredictable series in this year’s postseason, and tied at two games each with the series headed back to Hollywood, it’s hard to project what dramatic ending we are in for. Anaheim’s offense has come alive in spurts, blowing away the Predators in games two and four but not doing enough in games one and three. Neither goalie has been great, but Ray Emery has looked more consistent than Pekka Rinne so far and the Ducks have more firepower than Nashville. Home ice gives Anaheim the final change and enough of an advantage to take the series lead.

NHL Betting Pick: Anaheim Ducks

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Saturday, 12:00 PM ET

Fans in Tampa Bay were shocked when James Neal scored in double-overtime to clinch a 3-2 win in game four, completing the Penguins’ sweep of the Lightning in two road games. Once again it was a case of veteran winger Martin St. Louis doing everything he could to help his team with a goal and an assist, but getting little help from his teammates as Pittsburgh’s depth forwards continue to produce. Aaron Asham leads the series with three goals after scoring just five in 44 regular season games while players like Tyler Kennedy and Maxime Talbot have found the back of the net. The pressure is on a Tampa Bay team that is facing elimination, and this will be the game they finally produce.

NHL Betting Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning

New York Rangers @ Washington Capitals

Saturday, 3:00 PM ET

After blowing a three-goal lead with the chance to even the series at two wins each on Wednesday in a 4-3 overtime loss, the Rangers head back to the nation’s capital with little hope of getting back into the series. New York looked solid through the first two periods against the Capitals, but once Washington began to press they fell apart under pressure. With their confidence as shaky as ever, the Rangers won’t stand a chance as the Capitals put them away to advance to the second round, and the focus shifts to the MLB betting Yankees.

NHL Betting Pick: Washington Capitals
