Predictions For Kings Devils Betting – Los Angeles Continues Road Success In New Jersey

Posted by Don Melrose on 5/31/2012 3:36:02 PM

Sports betting sharps should be amazed at what Los Angeles is doing in the Stanley Cup playoffs, especially on the road where they have not only thrived, but they’ve run over the opposition. New Jersey will try to slow them down in Game 2 on Saturday night, but look for the Kings to take a stranglehold on the series.

What: NHL Betting
When: Saturday, June 2nd, 8:00 PM ET
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, NJ
Pick: Los Angeles Kings

Why Bet On Los Angeles Kings

There are nine reasons why you should wager on the Kings to win Game 2; nine wins in nine games, a new NHL record after their 2-1 victory to kick off the Cup finals after Anze Kopitar beat Martin Brodeur on a breakaway 8:13 into the first overtime period. It was Kopitar’s seventh goal of the playoffs, while Colin Fraser notched his first marker and Jonathan Quick made 16 saves for the Kings in an easy night for the Vezina nominee as Los Angeles dominated for most of the game and the Devils rarely got in Quick’s face. The Kings have been absolutely incredible on the road and once again, they came out and played like a team with a chip on their shoulder and nothing to lose, hitting everything in sight. Defenseman Matt Greene led the way with five hits, while surprisingly, Kopitar had four hits and that just goes to show what this means to the Kings as players that are normally known for their finesse are taking the body.

The Kings are now 13-2 in the playoffs and if NHL betting players weren’t taking them seriously before this game, they haven’t been watching closely because Los Angeles has been rolling and they don’t look like they’re slowing down. Their best players led the way and that is what you need at this point of the season. The Kings are now three wins away from their first Stanley Cup, and another win in New Jersey would definitely put them in the driver’s seat heading back to Los Angeles.

Why Bet On New Jersey Devils

Brodeur did his best to keep the Devils in the game with 23 saves, but his players were outworked from the start and it is not apparent if nerves came into play, but New Jersey looked sluggish and overwhelmed. It is tough to break out of that rut when you start off slow and the Devils never really recovered, although they did get some life when Anton Volchenkov scored from a point shot 18:48 into the second period to knot the game up at one apiece. Even then, the puck took a couple of bounces and went in off a Los Angeles defenseman as they never troubled Quick, failing to put bodies in front of him on a consistent basis and Quick is having too good of a season to just try and pick corners against him. Ilya Kovalchuk was off, but captain Zach Parise, Travis Zajac and Dainius Zubrus may be considered the culprits for this loss as they were on the ice for both goals by the Kings and they’ll need a much better effort on Saturday night.

The Devils simply can’t afford to have a poor start in Game 2 because the Kings are fast and when they sense that you are tentative, they’ll pound away until you break. They were the underdogs in all of their series, while the Devils were favored against a higher seed in Florida, while they were given a good chance against Philadelphia and New York, their Atlantic Division rivals that they had seen a lot of and had played well against during the regular season. But this New Jersey team looked a little scared on Wednesday night and if they come out like on Saturday, this series may be over quicker than anyone thinks.

How It Will Play Out

When the NHL betting line for this game comes out, the Kings will be favored on the road as they were prior to Game 1, and you really can’t argue with a perfect record away from home. There is no good explanation for their play on the road other than superior focus and confidence in all four lines to contribute, which is what happened in Game 1 as Fraser is a fourth-line center, but he opened the scoring and that really got the Kings going.

The Devils will come out with a stronger effort on Saturday night, but it may not make a difference; the Kings are just that good right now and they could beat any team in the NHL. They’re making it look easy and even though this game will be a struggle, pick Los Angeles on Saturday to take a 2-0 series lead in your online betting picks.
