Red Wings Sharks Betting – Sharks Look To Take Bite Out Of Red Wings In Second Round

A year ago it was the San Jose Sharks that ended the Detroit Red Wings’ bid to make the Stanley Cup finals for a third straight year. Fast-forward the clock to 2011 and the Sharks and Red Wings will match up in the conference semi finals once again, and under similar circumstances. Despite taking down Detroit in what was one of the most significant postseason accomplishments in franchise history, there is a feeling in San Jose that this team still hasn’t exorcised their playoff demons. It won’t be any easier this year against a Red Wings’ team that is much healthier than they are a year ago, and is coming off of the only opening round sports betting series sweep in 2011.

Even without Henrik Zetterberg in the lineup, Detroit needed just four games to drop the Phoenix Coyotes. The Swedish superstar had the chance to rest up and prepare for the rest of the drive, and should be ready to lineup along with proven playoff performers such as Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk against the Sharks. The Red Wings will need their role players to prove that they are still among the best in the league as Darren Helm, Jiri Hudler, and Kris Draper will line up against Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski, and company, and that battle of forward depth could be the biggest factor in the series.

Some of the pressure on San Jose captain Joe Thornton’s shoulders may have been relaxed with his game six series-clinching overtime goal to push past the Los Angeles Kings, but Danny Heatley has yet to prove that he can perform at an elite level in the postseason. Detroit head coach Mike Babcock is likely to try and pin Datsyuk on the Sharks’ top line for the entire series, and that will make their depth that much more important. San Jose lacks the depth on the blue line that is thin behind Dan Boyle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Ian White has been a solid addition to the team’s back end, but compared to a Red Wings’ defense that is led by Nicklas Lidstrom there are huge question marks.

Goaltending would usually be the biggest weakness for Detroit, but with Jimmy Howard playing consistent hockey compared to Antti Niemi they should have the edge in that department as well. Niemi was pulled twice in the second round and sported an ugly .863 save percentage and 3.99 goals against average against the Kings, but head coach Todd McLellan has committed to sticking with him for the series as the Kentucky derby betting race approaches.

The Red Wings are much healthier this time around, and after missing the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in three years they will look to climb back to the top. San Jose looked very inconsistent against a Kings’ team that was without their biggest star in Anze Kopitar, and that won’t work at a Detroit team looking to steal the spotlight from the MLB betting Tigers with a deep run this postseason.
