Sports betting players have watched Vancouver roll through the regular season, and they gutted out tough wins over Chicago and Nashville. The Canucks are just one win away from the Stanley Cup finals as they prepare to host a wounded San Jose team in Game 5 on Tuesday night, and Vancouver will prove they have the killer instinct needed to hoist the Cup.

  • What: NHL Betting
  • When: Tuesday, May 24th, 9:00 PM ET
  • Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Pick: Vancouver -170

Why Bet On San Jose Sharks

To be honest, it’s not looking very promising for the Sharks heading into what could be their last game of the season. They did manage to outshoot the Canucks 35-13 in Game 4’s 4-2 loss, but their power play was abysmal, going scoreless on five opportunities. Patrick Marleau has woken from his slumber after a poor series against Detroit, and Joe Thornton has also been playing well, but their captain was hit by Vancouver’s Raffi Torres in Game 4 and even though he says he’ll play, you have to wonder just how hurt he is. Ryane Clowe was San Jose’s best player in Game 4, scoring a goal and injecting some physical play into the team, but he can’t do it on his own.

Dany Heatley has been downright awful in this series, similar to how bad Marleau was against the Red Wings, and the Sharks need him raise his game if they’re going to stay alive. He has an assist and eight shots through the first four games of the series, and that isn’t enough from one of your best players. Antti Niemi has a 4.33 GAA and a save percentage of .857 in this series, but a lot of it isn’t even his fault because the Sharks haven’t been disciplined. There was the Ben Eager meltdown in Game 2’s 7-3 debacle in Vancouver, then the Sharks proceeded to give the Canucks three straight two-man advantages in the second period of Game 4; Vancouver scored on all three. The Sharks are imploding right now, something that NHL betting players will tell you is par for the course when comes to San Jose and the playoffs.

Why Bet On Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks are running on all cylinders right now and are showing why they’ve been the best team in the NHL all season long. After a poor series against Nashville, Henrik and Daniel Sedin have sprung to life against the Sharks, combining for 15 points, and Henrik has been on fire with a goal and nine assists, four of which came in Game 4. Ryan Kesler is doing a great job against Thornton, similar to the job he did against Chicago’s Jonathan Toews in the first round, and he added a power-play goal in Game 4. All four lines are rolling right now for Vancouver, and Torres was a wrecking crew in the last game, hitting everything in sight and forcing turnovers, along with injuring Thornton. The defense has been great, and goaltender Roberto Luongo was fantastic in Game 4, stopping 33 shots.

There isn’t much to dislike about the Canucks right now, but if you had to pick one thing, it’s that they have struggled to close out teams: Vancouver has had two opportunities to end a series on their home ice in a Game 5 situation, and lost both times. Now is the time for the Canucks to prove they have a killer instinct and step on the throat of the Sharks. They also can’t afford to take four penalties in the first period as they did in Game 4, no matter how much San Jose is slumping.

Why Bet On Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks are favored at -170 to end this series in five games, while the Sharks’ NHL betting odds are listed at +150, and there isn’t much for San Jose to hang their hat on right now. Their best player, Thornton, isn’t going to be 100% for this game, and unless Heatley and Marleau bring their A-game, it’s going to get ugly for the Sharks. The Canucks are flexing their muscles right now, and the only way they don’t win this game is if they take bad penalties and spend most of the game a man short.

The third time is a charm for the Canucks when it comes to Game 5s, and they should have no problem scoring a win in your online betting book.
