Bruins Continue Pursuit Of Northeast Title At Philadelphia

Posted by Don Melrose on 4/22/2013 7:21:38 PM

The Boston Bruins have been through so much on and off the ice already this season. They still have unfinished business. The Bruins will continue their pursuit of top spot in the Northeast division and home ice advantage for the first two rounds of the playoffs when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. Boston entered this week tied with the Montreal Canadiens for top spot with a game in hand, but it won’t be easy to get the job done with their final six regular season games over eight nights.

The Flyers won’t have much to play for other than pride it would seem on the surface. However, with own Ed Snider reportedly furious about the season his team has had, there could be major sports betting changes coming. Snider has already backed management and head coach Peter Laviolette, but nobody on the Philadelphia roster is safe.

NHL Betting Preview: Boston Bruins

The Bruins have split their first two meetings in this season series, blanking the Flyers 3-0 on home ice before losing the last meeting between these teams 3-1. Tuukka Rask stopped all 23 shots he faced the first time these teams met, but was tagged for three goals the second time around and will be looking to bounce back. Boston ranks third in goals per game allowed, and Rask’s 2.02 goals against average is a big reason for that. The Bruins have looked more dangerous offensively of late since Jaromir Jagr was added to the roster, and he will be on the ice against his former online betting team in the Flyers.

NHL Betting Preview: Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia hockey fans certainly miss the presence that Jagr brought to the team a year ago, and while there is no guarantee he would have made this year’s club any better he was a big part of last year’s team in terms of powerplay and five-on-five scoring. The Flyers rank 11th in goals per game this season despite the league’s third-ranked powerplay, and even though Ilya Bryzgalov has played better this season the team still ranks 25th in goals per game. Philadelphia acquired Steve Mason from the Columbus Blue Jackets and could be interested in giving him a starting job should they amnesty Bryzgalov, as that is just one potential move this team could make in what projects to be a busy offseason.

NHL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

The city of Boston has been through so much this year, and while a more difficult schedule is not a tough price at all for its hockey team to play, there is a lot of work to be done over this next week. The Bruins could really help their bid for the Northeast division title with a win over Philadelphia, and nobody would be surprised if Jagr has a big night against his former club after the Flyers opted not to re-sign him following last year’s playoff run.
