Vancouver Canucks Betting – West Champions Expected To Deliver

The Vancouver Canucks have never won the Stanley Cup since they came into existence in 1970. That 41-year drought is supposed to come to an end in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

Vancouver Canucks Overview

If the Vancouver Canucks don’t win the Stanley Cup this year, it’s hard to imagine when they’ll ever do the deed.

Vancouver defeated the second-seeded, 100-plus-point San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference finals, taking only five games to win the West. San Jose had just fended off another 100-point team, the Detroit Red Wings, in a high-level seven-game playoff series. The Western Conference has obviously exceeded the Eastern Conference in terms of its overall level of play. In all dimensions of competition and at all places on a hockey rink, the West playoffs have outshone the East, leaving little doubt in the minds of sports betting gurus. It’s hard even for MLB baseball betting experts to imagine a scenario in which the Eastern Conference champion Boston Bruins will be able to stop Vancouver’s terrific twins, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, plus two men with a nose for the puck, Ryan Kesler and Christopher Higgins, who have contributed immensely to the Canucks’ cause. Boston’s 37-year-old goalie, Tim Thomas, will be hard-pressed to outperform Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, who has thrived ever since a rocky seven-game first-round series against the Chicago Blackhawks.

If you want to make an informed sports bet on this series, it would make sense to bet on the Canucks. Vancouver is a deeper team than Boston up and down each roster. The Canucks are generally a bigger, stronger team with the exception of Boston defensemen Zdeno Chara. Vancouver is a faster-skating team that will make it very tough for Boston to apply its defense-first, tight-checking style of play under head coach Claude Julien. Moreover, even if the Bruins are able to slow down the game in the neutral zone, the Canucks can play dump-and-chase hockey, throwing the puck into the corners and along the boards. Vancouver can win those battles as well, and coach Alain Vigneault will likely tell his team exactly that as the buildup to Wednesday’s Game 1 intensifies.

Another thing to keep in mind when sizing up this series is that Boston gave up at least five goals on four separate occasions in the Eastern Conference finals against the fifth-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning. Vancouver was able to exploit a much tougher and more physically imposing San Jose defense in the West finals, exploding for seven goals in Game 2 and four more in Game 4. Vancouver’s versatility put San Jose in the penalty box on a consistent basis, enough to draw three straight 5-on-3 advantages within a four-minute span of Game 4. The Canucks converted all three of those two-man power plays en route to a victory that gave them a commanding 3-1 series lead against the Sharks. Just imagine what Vancouver can do against Boston, which does not have the size or strength that San Jose possesses.

As long as Luongo is solid in net and Thomas doesn’t steal at least two games with ridiculously good goaltending, this is Vancouver’s series to lose.
