Garden City Stakes Betting – Watsdachances Pulls It Out At Belmont Park

Posted by on 9/12/2013 7:44:48 PM

Sports betting sharps are wrapping up the summer horse racing session and with the Breeders’ Cup on the horizon, there is a lot at stake. The Grade-1 Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park could have a couple of challengers for the Juvenile Fillies Turf race in its field, and Watsdachances will be the best of the best.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, September 14th, post time TBA
Where: Belmont Park, Elmont, NY
Pick: Watsdachances

Alterite is a French horse making her debut on U.S. soil, and in four Grade-1 races, she has a personal best of second, which came in the Prix Saint-Alary in May. She has four finishes of third or better in six starts, including a win in the non-graded Prix La Carmargo in March, but Alterite could find out that American thoroughbreds are tougher to race against.

Caroline Thomas is coming off a victory in the Grade-2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga last month, her first win since an allowance race in December. Since then, this three-year-old filly has been up and down with a pair of third-place results, but also three of fifth or worse and then there is the win at Saratoga. Which Caroline Thomas is going to show up on Saturday at Belmont Park?

Concise came in fourth in the Lake Placid Stakes, and she is still looking for her first win after six starts. However, it was promising that she finished fourth in her graded-stakes debut and she could prove her horse betting value with a solid finish on Saturday. This thoroughbred from Great Britain will be making her third straight start in the United States.

Discreet Marq has to be considered one of the horse betting favorites in this race as she goes for her fourth consecutive victory, and since a sixth in her maiden, she has never finished lower than fourth, including five victories. Her most recent victory came in the Grade-1 Del Mar Oaks last month, and that vaults her near the top of the list. Discreet Marq has a few big races coming up in her future, but first, she has to win at Belmont Park.

Effie Trinket, like Discreet Marq, is also a New York-bred horse that has been on a roll with two wins, a second and a third in her last four starts, but they have all been allowance or non-graded races. In her lone graded-stakes start in eight starts, this three-year-old filly finished ninth in the Grade-3 Miss Grillo last October. These last four starts were probably to build up her confidence, but now Effie Trinket has to take it up a notch.

Emollient has won her last two starts in Grade-1 races, the Ashland Stakes in April and the American Oaks in July. There was also a sixth in the Grade-2 Black-Eyed Susan in May and a fifth in the Grade-2 Gulfstream Park Oaks in March, so this horse can be inconsistent. If you’re going by patterns, this may not be a good time to put Emollient in your horse betting picks, but she has the talent to compete with any female horse out there.

Praia has a win and five second-place finishes in eight starts, and two of those runner-up finishes came in Grade-3 races, so now we’ll see if she can step up to the next level. She is coming off a fifth in the non-graded Auntie Mame last month, but that looks to be an exception, not the rule. Keep a close eye on Praia as you’re making your horse betting picks.

Precarious is something of a longshot as she makes her graded-stakes debut, winning her maiden on her third try and then posting a fifth and sixth in back-to-back allowance races. You probably shouldn’t think much of her chances to win the Garden City Stakes, but you never know what will happen. Still, it’ll be a major upset if she does beat the field to the finish line.

Watsdachances has never finished lower than fourth in eight starts, winning the non-graded P.G. Johnson and Miss Grillo last year and she wrapped up 2012 by coming in second to Flotilla in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. She has back-to-back finishes in Grade-2 races (the Lake George and the Lake Placid), and the Irish filly should be a factor.

With Sugar On Top rounds out the field with three wins, but all three came in maiden and allowance races. The rest of her results have been fourth or worse, including an eighth in the non-graded My Princess Jess. She’ll probably be another longshot on Saturday.

How It Will Play Out

In an exciting finish, Watsdachances will beat the field to the wire and he should be your online betting pick on Saturday.
