Canadian International Stakes Betting – War Dancer Gets To The Winner’s Circle

Posted by on 10/16/2014 10:28:29 PM

The Grade-1 Canadian International Stakes is one of the biggest turf races in the world, and the winner automatically goes on to the Breeders’ Cup Turf event. It is held in Rexdale, a suburb of Toronto, and it is 1 ½ miles with a purse of $1,500,000, which means it will attract thoroughbreds of three years old and up from around the world.

This should be a fun race to watch on a rare Sunday high-stakes race, but with Joshua Tree not in the field after winning twice in a row, the win is up for grabs and War Dancer will take advantage of it.

What: Horse Betting

When: Sunday, October 19th, post time TBA

Where: Woodbine, Rexdale, ON, Canada

Pick: War Dancer

Big Blue Kitten is coming off a fourth-place run at the Grade-1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic last month, and a win would put her in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, in which she finished eighth last year. This six-year-old hasn’t won a graded-stakes event since last year, but Big Blue Kitten has shown in the past that he can compete with the top horses.

Brown Panther hails from Great Britain and was last seen winning the Grade-1 Irish St. Leger last month, but it is kind of strange to bring a six-year-old over for his North American debut at this point in his career. It’ll be interesting to see how Brown Panther handles the difference in competition.

Dynamic Sky finished second at the Grade-1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine last month, but this Canadian colt has just started running on turf over the last three months, racking up two second-place finishes, a third and a fifth. This four-year-old will have his work cut out for him, but Dynamic Sky is worth a look.

Hillstar is another horse from Great Britain making his North American debut and in his last start, he won the Grade-3 Arc Trial at Newbury. However, at four years olf he might be better equipped to handle the horses on this side of the pond. He will be intriguing to watch on Sunday.

O’Prado Ole finished fourth at the Grade-3 Kentucky Cup Turf in September, but he hasn’t won a race since an allowance event last October and has finished in the top three just once during that time. This four-year-old will probably end up bringing up the rear, but anything can happen in horse racing.

Pyrite Mountain was second at the Kentucky Cup Turf, his fourth straight result of finishing second, although the other three came in allowance races. He hasn’t won in almost two years at a non-graded event at Woodbine, and this Canadian four-year-old colt rank as a longshot in this race.

Reporting Star finished fourth at the Northern Dancer and has to be considered in the build-up for the Canadian International Stakes. This four-year-old gelding has a lot of fans that think he could scoop up a big win this weekend, so keep an eye out for Reporting Star, which is primarily a turf horse, but has been run on all surfaces.

Suntracer could be one of the favorites after winning the Kentucky Cup Turf, but prior to that he finished ninth in the non-graded American St. Leger and had a pair of top-three finishes in Grade-3 races. This six-year-old is incredibly tough to gauge and you have no idea what he is going to do from race to race. That being said, he is used to the distance and the turf, and he has run in a lot of graded-stakes events.

The Pizza Man had a run of five wins in a row stopped at the Northern Dancer, but he should be still considered a favorite, although some might beg to differ. Of those five wins, four of them were non-graded events, although he did win the Grade-3 Stars and Stripes at 1 ½ miles in July. He also didn’t race from October of last year to June of this year, so that is a concern.

War Dancer rounds out the field and he has four top-three finishes in his last five starts, all of which were graded-stakes events. This four-year-old would be an intriguing option for the Breeders’ Cup Turf, but first, he has to win at Woodbine on Sunday.

How It Will Play Out

Consistency is always a good thing, and War Dancer has been consistent in 2014. Look for him to win the Canadian International Stakes on Sunday.
