Fountain of Youth Stakes – Wildcat Red Takes Center Stage On Saturday

Posted by on 2/19/2014 7:29:17 PM

Sports betting sharps should be starting to get serious about the Kentucky Derby. On Saturday, one of the major prep races goes off at Gulfstream Park as the Grade-2 Fountain of Youth Stakes takes place over 1 1/16 miles on dirt. In a large and talented field, Wildcat Red will go to the front and then to the winner’s circle.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, February 22nd, post time 5:33 PM ET
Where: Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, FL
Pick: Wildcat Red

Almost Famous has won two of his first four starts, but both of those have come in maiden and allowance races. His other two starts have yielded fourth-place results in the non-graded Street Sense last October and the Grade-2 Holy Bull Stakes in January.

Best Plan Yet finished one spot behind Almost Famous in fifth in the Holy Bull, but that is an improvement from a ninth in the non-graded Gulfstream Park Derby on New Year’s Day. He does have two wins in seven starts, but Best Plan Yet needs to be more consistent.

Casiguapo has also been up and down, finishing second in the Grade-3 Delta Downs Jackpot in November, then fifth in an allowance race three weeks ago. Which version of Casiguapo, which will be making his fourth start in a graded-stakes race, shows up on Saturday?

Commissioner has two wins and a second-place result, but this will be his first graded-stakes race. This is a horse with a lot of potential and one that horse betting players have to keep an eye on this weekend at Gulfstream Park.

C. Zee is another intriguing horse betting option with a win and three second-place results in four starts, and one of those came in the Grade-2 Hutcheson to start February. However, he has never run further than seven furlongs; how he closes will be something to watch at Gulfstream Park.

East Hall finished third in the Gulfstream Park Derby, but this will be his first graded-stakes event in eight starts with one win and he has never run over a mile. This will be his biggest test and a win would be a huge boost for East Hall.

General A. Rod won that Derby for his second victory in three starts, but he has never run more than a mile. That being said, he had a big closing kick and that bodes well for the final 1/16 of a mile he will have to run on Saturday.

Hesinfront has a first and second in a pair of maiden races, but his worst result is a seventh in the Grade-3 Dania Beach Stakes just before Christmas. He has also run just one race on dirt, finishing fourth in an allowance race last month.

Medal Count came in a disappointing 11th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in November, then came back to win an allowance race last month, but that was on turf. That 11th on dirt stands out for Medal Count, and he will face another tough field this weekend, so he’ll need to step up.

Our Caravan broke his maiden in his debut in December, then finished eighth in the Holy Bull, so no one knows what to think of his horse betting odds. This is another colt with a lot on the line this weekend in Florida, and hopefully the experience of the Holy Bull will help on Saturday.

Top Billing could be the horse betting favorite this weekend as he makes his graded-stakes debut, and he has two wins and a second in three allowance and maiden races. He lost to Commissioner in early January, and their showdown could be the most intriguing plot of the Fountain of Youth.

We Miss Artie has been up and down, winning the Grade-1 Breeders’ Futurity, in October, then seventh in the Juvenile race in the Breeders’ Cup, then second in the non-graded Kitten’s Joy last month. He has two starts on dirt with a second in a maiden race and then the Juvenile, but We Miss Artie could be a darkhorse worth watching.

Wildcat Red won the Hutcheson and now has three wins and two second-place finishes in five starts. The main question for this colt is distance as he has never run more than a mile, but Wildcat Red could steal the show on Saturday.

How It Will Play Out

While everyone is watching Commissioner and Top Billing battle it out, Wildcat Red proves that he will be a force on the way to the Kentucky Derby. Take Wildcat Red in your online betting picks this weekend.
