Gotham Stakes Betting – Samraat Holds Off All Comers In Queens

Posted by on 2/26/2014 8:41:05 PM

Many sports betting players are preparing for March Madness betting, but Triple Crown season is around the corner. The Grade-3 Gotham Stakes is one of the major prep races for the Kentucky Derby, and it is 1 1/16 miles long, run on the dirt track at Aqueduct in Queens, New York.

Saturday’s winner will remain unbeaten and continue his march towards Churchill Downs as Samraat beats the field to the finish line.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, March 1, post time is 4:15 PM ET
Where: Aqueduct Racetrack, Queens, NY
Pick: Samraat

Classic Giacnroll is coming off a respectable fourth-place run in the Grade-3 Withers Stakes at the beginning of the month, and even though he is still looking for his first win, this colt has finished in the top four in each of his first three starts. He could be in the mix at the end of the race.

Deceived has finished in the top three in all six of his starts, which includes a pair of wins, but he needed four tries to break his maiden and one of his third-place runs came in the non-graded Damon Runyon in December. Horse betting players may be skeptical of this colt’s inability to step up to better competition, so this will be a big race for Deceived.

Extrasexyhippzster has three wins in four starts, but he has two things going against him: this will be his debut in a graded-stakes race and he has never raced more than a mile. Will his legs take him down the stretch? How will he handle the raised level of competition? This three-year-old is a very intriguing horse betting option.

Financial Mogul has one win in five starts, which came on his second maiden attempt, and he has results of second, fourth and sixth in three straight Grade-2 starts. His sixth in the Holy Bull shouldn’t be encouraging, and this could be his last chance in a high-stakes race for a while if he has a poor performance.

Harpoon finished second in three maiden races before finally getting the win, and then he ran second in the Grade-3 Sam F. Davis Stakes to start the month off. This colt has some fans thinking he can pull off a mild upset in this race, and he is definitely one to watch going forward.

In Trouble is undefeated in two races, including the Grade-2 Futurity at Belmont Park, but that was back in September and he hasn’t been in a competitive race. You have to wonder whether or not this colt will be rusty because the talent was there before his layoff. Can he shake it off on Saturday?

Master Lightning has been off the mark to start 2014, coming in fourth in the Grade-2 Jerome early in January and then he finished seventh in the non-graded Miracle Wood later that month. In three graded-stakes starts, Master Lightning’s best result is a fifth in last year’s Grade-2 Remsen. He might need the run of his life to get in the top three this weekend.

Monopolize broke his maiden on his second try, then finished sixth in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park in late January. This is his graded-stakes debut and should be considered a horse betting longshot, but he is the third horse in this race trained by two-time winner Todd Pletcher (who also has Harpoon and Master Lightning in his stable), so that could be worth something.

Noble Cornerstone may need a good showing more than any thoroughbred in the field after a disappointing seventh in the Sam F. Davis. He had broken his maiden on his first attempt last November and followed it up with a second in the non-graded Remington Springboard Mile in December, but the Sam F. Davis was a major step backwards for this colt.

Samraat has won all four of his starts after taking the Withers, and he is going to be a horse betting favorite going into this race. You would think he would go to the Wood Memorial if he was to win this race, but first, that is what he has to do: win on Saturday.

Uncle Sigh finished second to Samraat in the Withers and would love to have another run at him. That was a great result for his graded-stakes debut, but this field may be slightly better than the Withers and it’ll be a solid test for this colt.

How It Will Play Out

There is a lot of talent and speed lining up in this Kentucky Derby prep race, but look for Samraat to remain undefeated and pick up the online betting win.
