Parx Dash Handicap Preview

About the Race and Track

The Parx Dash Handicap has been all about Ben’s Cat of late as he aims for his third straight victory in this Grade 3 $200,000 5-furlong turf event at Parx Racing.

The track Parx Racing used to be called Philadelphia Park and before that Keystone Racetrack. The names have changed but the players remain the same.

He will have to beat a fully subscribed field as 4 of his rivals just won their most recent race.

Speed is always important in a short race like this but there is a plethora of speed in the line up and if a closer can get a trip, he could upset the apple cart.

A Longshot With Some Value: Sharp Sensation

Sharp Sensation will be making his turf debut. He is by Sharp Humor, who is 10 for 129 with first-time turfers. Sharp Humor took debut at 2, won a Grade 2, banked nearly $500K but never turfed. His dam was unraced but kin Edgerin J took 8 of 32 on grass and banked nearly $180K overall. Unknown quantity rates upset glance.

The Pick: Will Take Charge

Stormof theCentury is a proven Grade 3 performer and has more speed than he just flashed. The May 2 place horse he faced took the Grade 3 Jaipur next out with a 101 Beyer. He could have just been left with too much to do in last and gelding may prefer a bit of give in the ground as the last race came on the yielding course. Nothing wrong with the move on June 24 for trainer that has spotted them great all year with limited starters. Surprise package.

Marchman is steady as the day is long; he is 3 for 4 at this distance and has shown he can be placed anywhere and still fire. He had legit trouble in last when he stumbled, is proven in this league and like the fact he has shined at a number of different venues. He is another factor in a great betting race.

Bold Thunder’s style is no secret, as colt will be sent along from the sound of the bell trying to discourage the other zip. Note no drills in June but at least she got a shore spin 10 days ago. The February 26 show horse he faced took a $20,000 optional, and then ran out of the money. Colt can give up a sub :21 quarter if in the mood and one can never dismiss this kind of speed.

Ben’s Cat got away with soft splits in the April win and then proved he could press a faster pace and still live to tell about it. The 2-time defending champ in this race came from 10 back last year and is coming off a much better Beyer this year. He is looking at a track and pounce trip and looms very dangerous.

NFL fans have a vehicle in Tightend Touchdown, who took the same route but different style in the Gov Cup last year before failing at 4-5 in this very race. The 6th finisher in his last race took an N4L allowance next and the 10th finisher took a N3L $25,000 claimer. Versatility could be his best asset at this point. He is in good hands and trainer Jason Servis can keep them rolling once they get good to the tune of 29%. He is an obvious major player and rates the selection since he can run the option play.
