Sands Points Stakes Betting – Miss Besilu Comes Up Big At Belmont Park

Posted by on 9/11/2014 9:39:59 PM

The Grade-2 Sands Point Stakes is a race for three-year-old fillies, and it is run at Belmont Park in New York. It is set at a distance of 1 1/8 miles, and the surface is turf. The purse is set at $500,000.

There are some talented fillies in this field, but Miss Besilu will come away with a massive win on Saturday.

What : Horse Betting

When : Saturday, September 13th, post time TBA

Where : Belmont Park, Elmont, NY

Pick : Miss Besilu

A Little Bit Sassy was last seen finishing second at the Grade-2 Lake George at Saratoga in July, and she has finished either first or second in five of her seven starts, breaking her maiden on her first try. She has raced exclusively on turf, but she finished fourth in her first race at 1 1/8 miles; this will be a good test for this filly.

Aqua Regia has finished in the top three in six of her eight starts after finishing third at the Grade-3 Monmouth Oaks last month, which was her second start in a graded-stakes event. She finished fifth at the Grade-1 Mother Goose in June, so she is being worked back up to speed as that race might have been too much for a filly used to allowance and maiden races; it took her three tries to break her maiden. Also, this will be her first race on turf as she has run on dirt, and she has never run more than 1 1/16 miles.

Ball Dancing was bred in Kentucky, but she has only run overseas and this will be her first start in the United States. She also hasn’t raced since finishing fifth at the Grade-1 Prix de Diane in France, so it’ll be interesting to see how she handles the change in competition. Horses in America are thought to be better, so this could be a make-or-break race for this three-year-old filly.

Daring Dancer could be one of the favorites coming into this race after winning the Lake George ahead of A Little Bit Sassy, and she has won four of her five starts. She has also won both of her graded-stakes starts, so she shouldn’t be afraid of the competition. However, Daring Dancer finished fifth at the non-graded Wonder Again in May, and that was at 1 1/8 miles, so that might throw some players off her trail.

Duff One has made ten starts, and his two wins have come in her maiden on her second attempt, and then she won an allowance race. She has also finished fifth or worse in five of her starts, but then she rattled off a second-place run at the Grade-2 Lake Placid at Saratoga last month, and that was her first race at 1 1/8 miles. Duff One could be a darkhorse to watch on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Miss Besilu has made a comeback after a tough stretch early in the year which saw her finish 11th, sixth and sixth in three graded-stakes events. She finished second in an allowance race in June, then third at the Grade-1 American Oaks in July and third at the Grade-1 Alabama Stakes last month. The last race was run at 1 ¼ miles, and she might turn out to be a distance filly, which bodes well for her here.

Queenofzeenile is a candidate to bring up the rear as this will be her second start after finishing eighth in an allowance race, and that was back in April. That is a long time for a filly to be away from the track, and this is a big race. It would be a huge upset if she beat the field to the wire.

Sea Queen has never finished lower than fourth in seven starts, but even though she has won three times, once was her maiden on her first try, another was an allowance race and the final was the Wonder Again. She is coming off a fourth at the Grade-1 Del Mar Oaks last month, which followed a second at the Grade-1 Belmont Oaks in July. The distance shouldn’t be a problem as she has run 1 1/8 miles three times, winning twice.

Walk Close won her first four starts, but they were maiden/allowance/non-graded events. She finished fourth at the non-graded Tenski last month and she has never run more than a mile on the track, so the distance could be an issue.

Xcellence hails from France and won the Grade-3 Prix Imprudence in April. Then she went to the United States and finished fourth at the Belmont Oaks, which she followed with a third at the Lake Placid. She could be an intriguing pick on Saturday.

How It Will Play Out

This will be an exciting race to the wire, but take Miss Besilu to continue her fine form.
