Canadian International Stakes Betting – Interpol Heads To The Breeders' Cup

Posted by on 10/17/2015 5:32:24 AM

The Grade-1 Canadian International Stakes is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, which means the winner of this race goes on to the Breeders' Cup Turf race. It also features a purse of $1,000,000, and it is run on turf over 1 1/2 miles for horses three years and older.

This is a solid and deep field, but take the hot horse of the moment and go with Interpol to win at Woodbine on Sunday.

What: Horse Betting

When: Sunday, October 18th, 2015

Where: Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pick: Interpol

Cannock Chase was bred in Kentucky, but this is his North American debut after spending his career in England. He is coming off a win at the non-graded Godolphin Stakes in September, but this will be a different level of competition for this four-year-old gelding.

Danish Dynaformer is a Canadian horse that won the non-graded Breeders' Stakes in August, then fell to sixth at the Grade-1 Northern Daner Turf Stakes last month. That was his first graded-stakes start on turf, and needless to say, this three-year-old has to do better on Sunday.

Habibi hails from New Zealand and is coming off a second at the Northern Dancer, and this will be his fifth start in a row at Woodbine, so the crowd should be behind him. This six-year-old mare will be trying to become the tenth filly or mare to win this race, and the first since Sarah Lynx in 2011.

Interpol was the winner of the Northern Dancer, which was his second in a row after his victory in the Grade-2 Sky Classic Stakes in August. He didn't get off to a good start in his career, but this four-year-old colt seems to be improving as he gets older.

Kaigun finished fourth at the Grade-1 Woodbine Mile in September and he is aiming to get back to the Breeders' Cup after finishing tenth at the Mile last year. However, that could be an issue for this horse as he is meant for a mile, although to be fair, he won the Grade-2 Seabiscuit Handicap last November.

Power Ped is coming off a fourth at the Grade-2 Del Mar Handicap, his second straight fourth-place finish, and his three starts prior to that were all in the money, so this horse is usually around the front. This is another horse that didn't get off to the best of starts, but this five-year-old gelding could be a value bet to finish top three this weekend.

Reporting Star came in fifth at the Grade-1 Woodbine Mile last month, his first start outside the money in five outings since finishing sixth at the Canadian International last year. This five-year-old gelding is another horse that is usually around the front of the pack, which means they always have a chance to pull off an upset.

Second Step comes over from Ireland to make his North American debut, and he has two wins, a second and a fourth in four starts in 2015. But like many other horses from overseas, this four-year-old gelding will learn that the thoroughbreds in North America are a different type of ball game from what they're used to.

Sheikhzayedroad was on fire this time last year, as he won the Northern Dancer for his third win in a row. Since then, he has two finishes in the money in eight starts and no wins, and while he came in third at the Stand Cup in September, that was a non-graded race. This six-year-old gelding from Great Britain will be under a lot of pressure on Sunday.

Triple Threat is from France, but has made his last three starts on North American soil. He won the Grade-2 Monmouth Stakes in June before stumbling to an 11th-place finish at the Grade-1 Arlington Million, then he finished third at the Northern Dancer. He has acclimated well to North American competition, but this is just one more test for this five-year-old.

Up With The Birds rounds out the field as he comes off a fourth at the Arlington Million, and his last win came seven starts ago at the Grade-2 Nijinsky Stakes last July. But like many of the horses in this field, this five-year-old is usually around the front and with a couple of breaks, this Canadian thoroughbred could end up in the winner's circle.

How It Will Play Out

There are some incredibly talented and fast horses in this field, but Interpol has been on a roll and he'll roll right into the Breeders' Cup Turf with a win on Sunday.
