Jammed Lovely Stakes

About the Race and Track

With a paucity of Graded stakes on top this Saturday, let’s delve into the $150,000 Jammed Lovely Stakes at 7 furlongs on the synthetic at Woodbine.

First run in 1981, this event for 3-year-old fillies foaled in Canada has been won by some solid runners including near millionaire Ginger Brew in 2008.

Last year Executive Allure was coming off a press and fade 4th in an $108,000 open stakes before making the lead at the onset to go wire-to-wire in 1:21 4/5 to earn a career best 91 Beyer Speed Figure.

A Longshot With Some Value: Secret Action

This miss is the only stone-cold closer in this field. The pace figures to be contested and hot and if the leaders meltdown, this runner could pick up the pieces.

The Pick: Peggy O (Win)

Secret Ac tion will break from the rail. She comes to the race going great guns as she cuts back from a mile and an 8th grass win to this demanding distance of 7 furlongs. Note she graduated on the cut back from a mile to a sprint.

Strong Incentive is in the good hands of Chad Brown but she has only won once. She tried winner last time at Belmont and ran well but lost ground in the stretch. She also has to prove she can win on the synthetic and this will be her first attempt on this kind of surface.

Green Doctor is by the sire The Green Monkey, who cost 16 million and never won a race. This miss won a state-bred $150,000 stakes last year but the distance could be pushing the envelope. She has lost ground in the stretch in every race this year.

Chic Thrill brings an unbeaten 2 for 2 record to the party and although she has trained forwardly on the synthetic, both of the wins came on grass. She gets her class from her dam that won a $250,000 stakes in her career and ended up winning nearly $300,000.

Peggy O completes the short and sweet field of 5. She has only run one poor race and the rider could have just panicked that and pulled the filly up. Drawn right, she showed a new wrinkle last time going to the lead and not looking back and her trainer Catherine Day-Williams is popping at 30% this meet. This filly has a right to have a solid career as her half sister Bear’s Gem took a stakes and banked nearly $400,000.

The last-race Beyers that range from 79 to 84 can represent how close this race is.

The way the race sets up; Peggy O could benefit the most. Like the way she has extended in her all three of her wins, she has trained solidly since the last victory and the versatility she has shown could put her in the driver’s seat either early or late.

Envision a trip for Peggy O that will allow her to settle close up, maybe 2 lengths or so off the pace, primed to pounce. She has a penchant for finding the wire and should be a handful in this event.
