About the Race and Track

With the Breeders’ Cup less than a week away, let’s isolate a race on the Keeneland turf course for a little head start and the Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes is the vehicle.

The $150,000 event is for 3-year-old fillies going 8 and a half furlongs on the greenery. Some quality fillies have won this race over the decades and last year Sparkling Review was coming off an entry level allowance win before coming from 2nd to last in this race with a winning 85 Beyer Speed Figure.

A Longshot With Some Value: Osaila

This miss has a penchant for finding the wire and she faced some of the best of her generation in Europe.

The Pick: Gap Year (Win)

Calypso Beat is an interesting entrant. She was Group 3 placed in England and has some semblance of speed.

Prado’s Sweet Ride is just that. She has won 4 of 7 including a win in the Grade 3 Regret. One of the best things she has in her favor is that she has won on the Keeneland turf course.

Tiger Ride has been consistent in her career winning half of her 8 starts.

Sunset Glow has been in the money in 10 of 11 starts and when she was 4th, she was hung wide. The back class is there as she won a Grade 1 as a juvenile.

Cara Marie may have hated the soft course last time. She wants the front end and will be sent hard to the lead.

Rainha Da Bateria has had a tough year and she can be her own worst enemy since she has zero speed.

Stormy Regatta has already re-paid her $27,000 purchase price and 9 furlongs last time could have been pushing the envelope.

Osaila has won multiple Group 3s, is trained by Todd Pletcher and got a feel of the U.S. game when splitting the field last time at Belmont.

America Mon Amie may not have cared for the rail last time when 4th but she is hooking a couple of rivals that have had her number in the past.

Mrs McDougal has been pushed wide in her last couple of races but she should sit a nice stalk and pounce journey.

Don’t Leave Me has only run one poor race in her career and it came on a yielding course she may have disliked.

The also eligibles, Emmajestic and Strumming appear overmatched.

Include Betty has the class to be a handful today off her victory in the Grade 1 Mother Goose in June. Lack of speed must be addressed but she can quicken with the best of them.

Miss Double d’Oro was handled easily in her other Graded effort. In the world-class hands of Neil Drysdale, who doesn’t get the quality stock he used to, this miss has some things to iron out.

Gap Year has tactical speed but has been poor in her both Graded attempts. Both of those attempts were on dirt but this miss could be a handful with a good trip.

Obviously, this is a tough race and fully subscribed. These youngsters are improving hourly but Gap Year could be set for a peak performance. She just proved she could handle grass and the pedigree screams quality. Her dam is a Grade 1 winner and the dam is also kin to Grade 1 winner and millionaire Madcap Escapade.
