Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup

About the Race and Track

Sophomore fillies will put their skills Saturday at Keeneland in the Grade 1 $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and don’t be surprised if those that run well in this race return for action in the Breeders’ Cup in a couple of weeks.

Last year Bill Mott’s student Crown Queen was coming off a near 2-month layoff when she got an ideal 3-hole trip in this race to win inching away late with a 92 Beyer Speed Figure.

A Longshot With Some Value: Olorda

This miss debuts for the barn of Chad Brown and he is 29% with new stock. She was not disgraced in the Group 1 effort in May and the horse that finished directly in front of her, returned to win.

The Pick: Ben’s Cat Sentiero Italia (Win)

Mizz Money has excuse for her race 3 back when she caught an off track. She was game in victory in her Chicago finale in August when she held on by a nose at 14-1. This miss came back to earth in a thud about a month ago in a non-Graded stakes at Indy.

Her Emmynency has only run one poor race and that was the first time she raced on the Del Mar turf course. She had an excuse that day since a rare rainstorm had hit Del Mar and the course was really soggy.

She nearly got revenge for that poor effort next out when beaten three quarters in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Her tactical speed will give her first run on the deep closers.

Prize Exhibit followed Her Emmynency home in the Oaks and ran well in her last race when beaten a half-length in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon. She has trained forwardly for this and should be on her toes after the bullet work 8 days ago.

Miss Temple City has fired every time and has only been out of the money once. In that race, the Coronation at Ascot, she was 4th beaten just 2 lengths.

Return to Grace did just that when she won a $199,000 stakes at Kentucky Downs and in the process flattered Mizz Money.

Olorda only beat 4 foes in her last race but she ran poorly in her U.S. debut. The blinkers come off today but both of her wins have come when she raced with blinkers.

Blond Me has had more fun than her rivals twice in England and was 2nd beaten a neck in a Group 3 in her August finale.

Feathered is a runner. She has been in the exacta in 7 of 11 and she got a nice confidence builder last time. She has been Group 1 placed twice, beaten a half-length both times.

Sentiero Italia’s are optimistic coming to this race. This miss has won 4 of her 6 races including a pair of Grade 2s in New York. She has a right to grow into her skin, as she is kin to Grade 1 winner Ashkal Way. She will have to overcome the extreme outside slot this time but she trained well for this and she has proven she can be placed anywhere and still win. She is the one to beat.
