Orb Rebounds To Take the Belmont

Posted by Marco Sussman on 6/6/2013 7:00:13 PM

Online betting sharps will be looking forward to the final Triple Crown race of the year, the Belmont Stakes, which takes place on Saturday. This 1 ½ mile race is grueling, and it’ll take a special horse to get to the line first. That horse will be Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, June 8th, post time 6:40 PM ET
Where: Belmont Park, Elmont, NY
Pick: Orb

Frac Daddy is back on the track after winning a duplicate race, which was needed after a poor 16th-place showing at the Kentucky Derby. Ahead of the duplicate race, Frac Daddy ran five graded-stakes events in a row, putting up two runner-up finishes, but he looked out of his element in the other races and the distance of 1 ½ miles may be too much for him.

Freedom Child was held out of the Kentucky Derby after a 10th-place finish in the Grade-1 Wood Memorial, and a win in the Grade-2 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park was good for confidence. Will horse betting sharps take a chance on Freedom Child? It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Giant Finish will be a horse betting longshot ater finishing 10th at the Kentucky Derby, and that was the last time he has been on a racetrack, so there is no pressure on this colt. That was his first attempt at a Grade-1 race and it didn’t go over so well. However, the lack of pressure could be freeing for the horse as well as his handlers.

Golden Soul is intriguing because he hasn’t run since the Kentucky Derby, in which he finished second, but trainer Dallas Stewart decided to hold him out of the Preakness Stakes. In six starts, Golden Soul hasn’t finished lower than sixth and ran a great race on a sloppy Churchill Downs track at the Derby. Keep an eye on this colt as you’re making your picks.

Incognito will offer long odds after needing four tries to break his maiden, then he finished fifth in the Peter Pan Stakes after a win in an allowance race. He has never run a race longer than 1 1/8 miles, so picking him over 1 ½ miles is a big risk.

Midnight Taboo has never run a graded-stakes race, which means there are no expectations on this horse and he’ll be a longshot.  But he is one of five horses entered in the Belmont trained by Todd Pletcher, who would love a win after going 0-for-5 in the Kentucky Derby.

Orb was the horse that quieted Pletcher’s stable by winning the Derby, but his Triple Crown hopes ended with a fourth at the Preakness. That was the first time in six races that Orb didn’t cross the finish line first, and he will go into the Belmont as the horse betting favorite in your racebook.

Overanalyze is Pletcher horse No.2, and he is looking to bounce back from an 11th-place effort in the Kentucky Derby. He hasn’t raced since then, so Overanalyze should be well-rested and he’ll probably offer some decent odds worth taking a look at, and he’ll generate a good return if he happens to win on Saturday.

Oxbow stole the show at the Preakness with the victory, and the win wasn’t that big of a surprise as Oxbow has managed to at least be in the running in all 11 races he has entered with the exception of his first race. Can he maintain his speed throughout the 1 ½ miles and give trainer D. Wayne Lukas his fifth win in the Belmont? He’ll also be steered by jockey Gary Stevens, who has won the Belmont three times.

Palace Malice is another Pletcher entry, and he was almost entered in the Preakness after finishing 12th in the Kentucky Derby. That can’t be encouraging, and he hasn’t won a race since his maiden on his second attempt last August.

Revolutionary hasn’t finished lower than third in seven starts, including a third in the Kentucky Derby, and he is another Pletcher-trained colt with a good shot at the Belmont. He’ll be a horse betting favorite on Saturday, and since he hasn’t raced since the Derby, he’ll be rested.

Unlimited Budget is the final Pletcher horse in the Belmont, and she could be the first filly to win the race since Rags To Riches in 2007. Only three fillies have won the Belmont, so it would be a huge accomplishment if she could pull it off.

Vyjack is trying to bounce back from an 18th-place finish at the Kentucky Derby, but prior to that, he had four wins and a third. This horse has talent, but the result at the Derby has caused his horse betting odds to drop dramatically, so he could be worth a look.

Will Take Charge rounds out the field after a pair of midpack finishes in the Triple Crown races, and he is another longshot that could pull off a massive victory. But how will he handle the stretch run of the “Test of Champions”?

How It Will Play Out

Orb will get back to his winning ways and claim his second Triple Crown victory of the season, so take him in your sports betting picks on Saturday.
