  • What: Breeders’ Cup Classic Preview
  • Where: Churchill Downs
  • When: Saturday, November 5th

This year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic may not have the same online sportsbook drama as the Zenyatta/Blame matchup of 2010 but each Classic has it’s own way of spinning a tale as the best in the world try to get to run the fastest mile and a quarter of their lives with $5 million in the balance.

The ladies this season will be represented cleverly by Havre de Grace, who already beat the boys two back in the Woodward with a 111 Beyer, has been out of the exacta only twice in her career and who should sit a super stalk and pounce kind of a journey.

She may go second choice in this year’s Breeder’s Cup betting to the rebounding Uncle Mo. Mo is coming off a mud-aided 118 Beyer in the mile Kelso but he only beat 3 foes that day and he will be tested to the hilt to get this distance. He has the win in the Juvenile here to fall back on but it’s a whole new ballgame giong this far.

Aidan O’Brien pre-entered two for this race, Await the Dawn and So You Think but only the latter is likely to line up in the Classic.

So You Think lost nothing in defeat in the Champion Stakes last time at Ascot, has repeatedly won at this distance on the grass and was far from disgraced in the Arc to kick off October.

Drosslmeyer would be a surprise here as his only score this year was in a $60,000 stakes all out.

Flat Out flattered Havre de Grace by winning the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup and although he has lost twice at Churchill, he has cashed at a number of different venues.

Bob Baffert’s trainee Game On Dude just held together in the 9-furlong Goodwood last time but was a nostril the best in the Santa Anita Handicap at this distance in the winter. He will be winging and that will give him first sport betting run on the deep closers.

Baffert’s other charge Prayer for Relief is an improving sort that has tactical speed but he’s never been this far as he will get the acid test here.

Gio Ponte is a classy runner but he has never won on conventional dirt and that’s a legit concern.

Three of Headache’s 8 wins came at Churchill and he is fresh from a win in a Grade 2 at Hawthorne with a 99 Beyer. He has put wins together in this career but the win came against just $25,000 claimers.

Rattlesnake Bridge will be a huge number as he will be trying to win his first Grade race while Ruler on Ice has lost three in a row since winning the Belmont Stakes and would benefit by a pace that is suicidal.

Stay Thirsty will be forwardly placed and he’s proven at the demanding distance. He may have hated the mud last time and he will have to deal with some other legit speed in here.

To Honor and Serve has only run one poor race in his life and that was at the wrong distance. He is a multiple Grade 2 winner, is shooting for the hat trick in the Classic and he just might be that live long shot that everybody craves.

As the hours dwidle down before the Classic, try to isolate good final works for these contenders and look for selections soon after the race is officially drawn.
