Breeders Cup Classic Betting Tips – Game On Dude Comes Up Big In The Classic

Posted by Marco Sussman on 10/31/2012 5:45:31 PM

Every sports betting player knows the highlight of the Breeders Cup is the Classic, the final race of the program and the one yields the highest purse (to the tune of $5 million). This year’s horse will throw his name in the hat for the Horse of the Year award.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, November 3rd, post time TBA
Where: Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, CA
Pick: Game On Dude

Alpha is trying to close out a very up-and-down 2012 in which he won four races in seven starts, including three graded-stakes races, but he came in a disappointing 12th in the Kentucky Derby. That was the only race this year in which Ramon Dominguez wasn’t in the saddle and his handlers are likely trying to avoid that mistake again. The three-year-old colt also finished 11th in last year’s Breeders Cup Juvenile.

Brilliant Speed has made 20 starts, and 15 have come in graded-stakes races. He has never finished lower than seventh in a race, and that came in last year’s Kentucky Derby. He hasn’t won since the Grade-3 Saranac last September, and the four-year-old colt also came in third in the 2011 Breeders Cup Turf race.

Flat Out is coming off a huge win in the Grade-1 Jockey Club Gold Cup for his first victory of 2012, his second straight in that event. This is also Flat Out’s second start in the Classic as he finished fifth in 2011, and this six-year-old has definitely recovered from a slow start, a 12th-place run in the Grade 3-Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Larned finished third in the Jockey Club Gold Cup following two straight victories, but they were both in handicap races and the Breeders Cup Classic is obviously a different type of race. This is far and away that the four-year-old colt has ever run, so it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the pressure and prestige of this event.

Game On Dude is in the horse betting running for Horse of the Year, and a win in this race would go a long way for this five-year-old gelding, which has four wins in six 2012 starts. Three of those have come in his last four starts and two were in Grade-1 races, so Game On Dude and his stable knows what it takes to compete in big races.

Handsome Mike defeated a solid field in the Grade-2 Pennsylvania Derby in September for his first win since his maiden in October 2011, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. This three-year-old is still getting better and he may end up being a decent darkhorse this year in the Classic, but he could be at his full powers in next year’s event.

Mucho Macho Man should be well known to horse betting players as he ran all three Triple Crown races in 2011, finishing with a high of third in the Kentucky Derby, but his results kept getting worse in those races. He started 2012 brilliantly, winning the Sunshine Millions Classic and he hasn’t finished lower than third in six races, but the four-year-old colt has also taken part in a couple of handicap races.

Nonios has made three consecutive starts in Grade-1 races, and finished second in two of them, and he hasn’t won since the Grade-3 Affirmed back in June. But this three-year-old colt is off to a good start in his racing career and he should be one to watch, if not this year, but next year.

Pool Play beat out the field in the Grade-2 Hawthorne Gold Cup, but Santa Anita Park wasn’t good to him in his lone start there, which came back in March 2010 in the Grade-1 Santa Anita Handicap. Pool Play is seven years old at this point and it’ll be a stretch if he can come out on top in the Classic, but if he did, he would likely be retired right away.

Richard’s Kid is also an older thoroughbred at six years old, but this colt still has a little left in the tank as shown by back-to-back third-place runs in Grade-1 races, the Pacific Classic and Awesome Again events. The Awesome Again Stakes was held at Santa Anita, so that may play a little into the favor of Richard’s Kid, although this is a more talented field.

Ron the Greek also won at Santa Anita in 2012, taking the Grade-1 Handicap in March, but this five-year-old is coming off a disappointing sixth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, his first result outside the top two in eight races. However, Ron the Greek may be a better handicap horse as his two victories this year have come in those races.

To Honor and Serve has made five starts in 2012, winning both non-handicap races, so it’s safe to say that he can handle himself in these races. This four-year-old beat out the likes of Mucho Macho Man in the Grade-1 Woodward, now he has to defeat a field full of those talented horses.

How It Will Play Out

Using a late push to get past the field coming down the stretch, Game On Dude will come on top and make a few online betting sharps very happy.
