BC Selections for November 1

Posted by on 10/29/2014 9:58:16 PM

There will be joy, tears, upset riders, madcap handicappers and successful bettors but when the Breeders’ Cup Classic closes out the action at Santa Anita Saturday; history will be in the books.

Here is how it just might unfold.

The 4th race starts the fireworks, as the Juvenile Fillies will go a mile and a sixteenth. These runners are still maturing almost by the hour so it is a wide-open race but Angela Rene gets the nod. She has only run one poor race, which was in the slop, and she was impressive in her prep at Santa Anita. Conquest Eclipse is the logical second choice while Christina’s Journey is a perfect 2 for 2 and has trained fast in California.

Stout runners go in the Fillies and Mare Turf next at a mile and a quarter. Defending champion Dank will be a handful. She was troubled in her last race and should sit a nice stalk and pounce trip. Stephanie’s Kitten is the second pick and she runs well wherever she shows up. Give Fiesolana a look at a price. She has been around the block and back.

The Filly and Mare Sprint goes at 7 furlongs next. Living the Life is 12-1 on the morning line and she could pull it off. Perfect in the states, she has beaten some big fields in her career. Judy the Beauty and Artemis Agrotera are logical contenders that should be in the thick of it.

Reneesgotzip will be rolling in the Turf Sprint next but she has the rail and that is a very iffy post down the hillside turf course and she may settle for 2nd. Look for her to set the pace along with No Nay Never, who could hold on for third but the pick is Silentio, who was beaten a nose in a Grade 1 race on this course last year and he’ll be a price.

Next year’s Kentucky Derby early favorite will come out of the Juvenile and Daredevil is the one to beat. He toyed with his foes in the last 2 outings and has drilled super fast for this race. Carpe Diem will seize the day to run second with American Pharoah doing the best of the locally based runners.

Telescope , in the Turf, is the best bet of the day. He invents ways to win and has faced the best runners in the world. Magician will try to defend his title in this race and is coming to the event on his game while Flirtshire exits the Arc in France and should be around the wire.

The fastest runners in the world will line up in the Sprint and Secret Circle, trained by Bob Baffert, can succeed. He had an ideal prep for this race less than a month ago. Indianapolis can make it an all Baffert exacta while Palace should get a super stalk and pounce trip.

The forecast in the Mile is for Toronado to roll home big. He just lost by a head in France and the horse that beat him won his next race too. Mustajeeb at 6-1 and Veda at 12-1 could make it a European sweep.

The purse is $5 million but it’s not all about money in the Classic, it’s about prestige and the future. Shared Belief and California Chrome will take most of the money and they just may run 2nd and third. That could leave the door open for the Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist, who won his last race despite a horrible trip.

Prepare, be smart, do the work and good luck.
