CashCall Futurity Betting Tips – Fury Kapcori Comes Up Trumps At Hollywood Park

Posted by Marco Sussman on 12/16/2012 11:05:36 PM

Online betting players getting ready for the Kentucky Derby next year should have an eye on the Grade-1 CashCall Futurity on Saturday as you’ll likely see a few horses that will line up at Churchill Downs in May. Even though a Hall of Fame trainer has four horses in this event, one from outside his stable will come away with the victory.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, December 15th, post time TBA
Where: Hollywood Park Racetrack, Inglewood, CA
Pick: Fury Kapcori

Carving is the first of four entries from trainer Bob Baffert, who has won this race six times, including three of the last four. This horse is coming off a win in the non-grade Real Quiet Stakes at Hollywood Park and the two-year-old colt has three wins in four starts. However, Carving started in the Grade-1 FrontRunner in September and came in fourth, so this will be a test to see whether or not this horse can hang with the upper echelon.

Den’s Legacy is another horse coming off a win at Hollywood Park as he took the non-graded Generous event three weeks ago for his second win in six starts. His other win came in his third attempt at his maiden, and Den’s Legacy may be the worst of the Baffert quartet, but he still has a decent chance to pull out the horse betting upset.

Dirty Swagg finished third in the Real Quiet Stakes and he also had a disappointing ninth-place run in the FrontRunner, so you’ll probably find him down the list in regards to horse betting options for the CashCall Futurity. It took Dirty Swagg four tries to earn his maiden win, and he also came in seventh in the Grade-3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship at Hollywood Park, so there aren’t many good memories for this two-year-old colt at this track.

Fury Kapcori rolled in behind Carving at the Real Quiet Stakes and prior to that, he won the non-graded Charlie Palmer Futurity in October. The Real Quiet Stakes is the more telling race as it was run at 1 1/16 miles, which is the distance of the CashCall Futurity, so this colt can hold his own over the distance; can he step up to the level needed to win a Grade-1 race?

He’s Had Enough bounced back from an 11th-place run in the Grade-1 Breeders’ Futurity in October to finish second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to Shanghai Bobby, and a lot of horse betting experts think this is the horse that can really challenge Baffert’s four horses. He’s Had Enough won his maiden on his first try, but the Doug O’ Neill-trained thoroughbred has been a mixed bag since then. Which version of He’s Had Enough will show up on Sunday?

Little Jerry is making a huge jump in competition after winning his maiden at Hollywood Park last month over 1 1/16 miles, and trainer Richard Baltas thinks this colt is ready to go to the next level. You may be able to find great odds for Little Jerry, but there isn’t enough history to look at, so you’d be taking a risk picking this two-year-old. Still, he is a very intriguing option.

Oxbow needed four attempts to win his maiden and now he jumps straight into the fire of a Grade-1 race, but he does have a great trainer in D. Wayne Lukas, who has won this event four times (including the inaugural race in 1981). But we haven’t seen Oxbow run this distance yet, nor have we seen him against a really good field.

Really Mr. Greely is the third Baffert horse entered in this race after winning the Grade-3 Hollywood Prevue at Hollywood Park in November, but this distance will be a challenge to this colt, who has never run over seven furlongs. This will be the fourth start for Really Mr. Greely, who won two of the first three, but again, distance could be an issue.

Simon Eyes finished fourth in the Real Quiet Stakes after winning his maiden on his third try, and he’ll probably need a couple of breaks to win this race. He did put up a good fight in the Real Quiet Stakes, but Simon Eyes may not be ready to take that next step, although we will see on Saturday.

Title Contender is the final Baffert horse in this race, and he is trying to recover from an eighth-place run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. There were high hopes for Title Contender heading into that race, but now the hype has died down and this two-year-old will need a huge race in order to get back to the level many horse betting players think he is capable of.

Violence has won both of his starts, winning his maiden in August and then the Grade-2 Nashua in November, so he could be worth a look. Todd Pletcher is looking for his first win in the CashCall Futurity and Violence may be his best horse to date.

How It Will Play Out

Even though Baffert has a number of talented horses, the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Fury Kapcori should be your sports betting pick on Saturday.
