Count Fleet Stakes Betting – Down for the Count

Count Fleet Stakes Betting

It’s never too early to start researching sports betting for the Kentucky Derby and sophomores in New York will take the first step in that direction this Saturday in the mile and 70 yard $150,000 Count Fleet Stakes on the inner strip.
Named for the 1943 Triple Crown winner, Count Fleet himself won 16 of 21 races but maybe as importantly, was a force at stud. He sired Kentucky Derby winner Count Turf and a pair of Belmont Stakes winners and one of his daughter’s produced 5-time Horse of the Year Kelso.

Some very nice horses have won the Count Fleet over the years and it was just in 2004 when Smarty Jones took this race and went on to come within inches of winning the Triple Crown.

Last year Monzon was coming off a third in his final 2010 start on Halloween in an $80,000 stakes before coming from dead last and 10 lengths back to post a winning 90 Beyer at 6-1.

A sweet field of 7 will face the starter Saturday and let’s look at them from the inside out.

Il Villano holds the win edge on his rivals as he shoots for his 4th victory in 5 starts. He was second in his debut, an ultra live race, and has not lost since last winning a $72K Philly stakes going away by 5.

The online sports book runner will have to prove he can win routing but he has the speed to attempt a theft and he has a right to get the trip as one sibling cashed going long.

How Do I Win will also be routing for the first time but two exited his last race to win next out. Trained by Todd Pletcher, his key to victory may be if he can rate a bit and still quicken.

Whistleblower graduated over the inner just over a month ago but sometimes when late-running sprinters like this go long, they are closer early and don’t have the same punch.

Stephanoatsee is one of 3 in the field that has won going long. He was agile enough to overcome a poor start in his lone win and was wide in his last race. The blood is there for this guy to thrive, as there are several stars in the family including Preakness winner and near $2 million earner Shackleford.

Alpha graduated in his debut, ran into the talented Union Rags, then had his head handed to him in the BC Juvenile. He will likely have to come from left field to win.

Speightcity has won twice routing and is proven on the strip. He got away tracking a moderate pace in last and was inching away late.

Shkspeare Shaliyah will have to handle the dirt. He can run all day it appears and both wins came on the Belmont turf. His half sister Zip Trick cashed routing once, was stakes placed, and was never really bred to go long.

Let’s kick off the online wagering year with a speed play. Il Villano has extended late in all three of his wins, he brings :44 and change speed to the table, and may never look back. He’s worth a bet if he doesn’t go favored.
